Melissa Gilbert wore an unconventional scarlet gown to marry a well-known actor

Virtually, all women dream about the perfect wedding with flowers, a big and tasty cake, and a beautiful white wedding dress. However, some females like to step out of their comfort zones for their big days doing unusual and daring things. Melissa Gilbert really knows how to do it, as she recently showed it when she tied the knot with another actor. We have all the details about our favorite child actress. Take a look!

Perhaps, young generations are not as familiarized with Melissa as the older ones, but she started her career in the industry when she was only a little girl back in the 60s. She began to appear on commercials and to get guests roles on TV, but it was in 1974 when she landed her first starring part.

She portrayed Laura Ingalls Wilder, Charles Ingalls' daughter on Little House on the Prairie, an NBC TV series. While working there, she also showed up in TV movies such as Miracle Worker and The Diary of Anne Frank. As a grownup, the Californian girl continued playing parts on the boob tube.

For instance, she was the voice of Batgirl in Batman: The Animated Series. Between 2009 and 2010, she started a touring production of Little House on the Prairie, the Musical as Caroline Ingalls. While she was touring, she dabbled into a new field: writing.

In 2009, she released her autobiography Prairie Tale: A Memoir. She, later on, wrote a short story for children called Daisy and Josephine, as well as My Prairie Cookbook: Memories and Frontier Food from My Little House to Yours.

Two years after the end of the tour, she continued broadening her experience in another field: dancing. The actress participated in ABC's Dancing with the Stars as a contestant for the fourteenth season of the famous reality dance contest with her partner, the Ukrainian American ballroom dancer Maksim Chmerkovskiy.

However, she suffered a mild concussion during a Paso Doble presentation when she hit her head on Maksim's leg. Although she was taken to the hospital, she could continue in the competition after her recovery. She was then eliminated during week eight and finished in fifth place.

Gilbert's romantic record has not been very positive since she has gotten divorced twice. The first time was after her marriage to Bo Brinkman only seven weeks after a failed relationship. She became pregnant months later and gave birth to her firstborn in May 1989. However, the pair got divorced three years later.

Her second attempt as a married woman was with Bruce Boxleitner, whom she met while she was a teenager. After dating on and off for a year, the lovebirds tied the knot in 1995. The couple had a son together the very same year and got divorced in 2011.

It seems as the third time's a charm because two years later, the actress announced another engagement to fellow actor Timothy Busfield. The wedding and even the engagement were shocking since nobody had the slightest idea that the two actors were dating.

According to EOnline, the pair have known each other for quite some time, and over the last 20 years, their paths have crossed on and off. However, they hadn't been romantically involved during that period, but it is not sure when they started dating.

But we do know, according to Daily Mail, that the actor put a ring on Melissa's finger over the Christmas holidays, and celebrated their imminent nuptials with a party at Mr. Chow restaurant in Beverly Hills. Four months after the announcement, the pair wedded in a small ceremony over the holidays of that year on April 24.

The chosen romantic place was San Ysidro Ranch in Santa Barbara, California. As for the venue, San Ysidro Ranch had previously hosted several famous nuptials. It was the ideal place for the rehearsal dinner of Drew Barrymore and husband Will Kopelman.

Moreover, the wedding night of Hilary Duff and Mike Comrie was there as well. Lawrence Olivier and Vivian Leigh were also wedded in a ceremony at the ranch, and president John and Jackie Kennedy enjoyed their honeymoon there. It is no wonder why it is the desired place because the gardens make it look magical.

Having had two weddings already, the red-headed Californian opted for something less traditional for the third one. Instead of the typical white dress, she went for an unconventional red-hot gown. The flame-haired 54-year-old decided to say "I do" with a stunning strapless dress that complemented her locks.

To add the final touch to her attire, Gilbert carried a bouquet of white and pink flowers and showed off her mane in soft curls. Gilbert looked ravishing in the photograph, and her now husband looked no less dashing in his navy suit and white shirt.

The actress also shared an excellent wedding photograph taken at the lovely gardens of San Ysidro Ranch, and they looked adorable. She even captioned the picture: “Thanks for all the well wishes. Here's a photo. Taken with my iPhone!!”

The wedding was the third one for both the actors. Melissa entered married life with two children from previous unions while the actor has three offsprings. Elliot Weston on Thirtysomething was married to director and actress Radha Delamarter and had a son with her, Willy; however, they got divorced in 1986.

Only two years later, the American star tied the knot with fashion designer Jennifer Merwin, with whom he had a girl and a boy, Daisy and Samuel.  However, things did not work out, and the couple decided to part ways back in 2007, but their union nearly lasted 20 years.
