The Real Reasons Why Main Characters Left NCIS
The show has been on the air for the last 15 years, and we see no end in sight, but many things have happened after every season that changed the original show, such as fan-favorite characters disappearing because the actor decided to leave. We have gathered several reasons why some of the main stars of NCIS left the series. This article is full of spoilers, so be warned.
The actress was one of the first to leave the cast. Her character, Caitlin Todd, was a former secret service agent, who then decided to work for the NCIS. Alexander expressed that she has no regrets about leaving the series, even though the show took off with high ratings after her departure.
“The show did very well from the beginning. We were consistent, but for whatever reason, it didn’t get any press coverage then. I always thought it was a great show. There’s a fun quality to it and people can relate to that. To me, NCIS has always been a bit of a comic book.”
Even after the show saw mainstream success, she never regretted her decision and was just thankful to have starred on it for two years. In 2010, Sasha actually took a role on TNT’s Rizzoli and Isles, which was a similar genre, and she loved it for six seasons.
Cote de Pablo
The actress was not Israeli, but her role in the series was one of the best Israeli characters on television. Sadly, Cote de Pablo had many reasons to leave the show, but it was mostly because she did not feel that the writers were doing right by her character.
“Unfortunately, because of political things and the scripts not being good enough, I chose not to stay. I love this character. I worked eight years in crafting this characters and loving her, so when I felt and I perceived the character was not being treated with the respect that she deserved, all the in the world couldn’t buy me.”
We find it saddening that fans had to say goodbye to such a cool role at the beginning of season 11, but the truth is that the writers were going to send Agent Ziva to Israel and make her completely unhappy. The actress went on to star on The Dovekeepers, a CBS mini-series.
The actor decided to say goodbye to the series after Cote de Pablo left, and he also wanted to explore other projects in his professional career. Furthermore, the actor expressed the need to move on because his character was not doing anything without Agent Ziva.
“Their great dynamic, the badinage and sparring and flirting between the characters and how they would swing from siblings to near lovers and back to buddies, that was gone and then I got to the point where I felt I’d stayed at the party for too long.”
The actress left the popular drama after working with them for only one season. She joined the cast on the 14th season as Agent Alexandra “Alex” Quinn.
“It was a great experience. I could not have asked for a better opportunity than to work with the NCIS cast and producers.”
Unfortunately, no one knows why the actress left the show, but she has departed from a similar one in the past. She starred in Blue Bloods before landing the role on NCIS, so she might move on to play a character on Criminal Minds.
Crazy rumors started circulating the moment that the actress announced she was leaving the show. In October 2017, some people speculated that the reason for her departure was to promote a skin care line, which the actress rushed to deny.
“So, it is true that I am leaving NCIS after this season. There have been all kinds of false stories as to why. It was a decision made last year I hope everyone will love and enjoy EVERYTHING ABBY not only for the rest of this season but for everything she has given all of us for 16 years. All the love all the laughter all the inspiration I love her as much as you do.”
The rumors started because the actress revealed in an interview that skin care lines were hounding her in order to sell their products using her flawless image. The 49-year-old actress does not look her age, and that is why a company started the fake news about her leaving the show.
“It’s a fake company. It’s a scam. I have people, hundreds and hundreds of people, asking questions about why I would pick a skin care line over my job. People are getting scammed and no one can catch these people.”
The actress starred on the show from season two until season five, playing the ex-girlfriend and partner of Mark Harmon’s Leroy Jethro Gibbs. The reason for her departure is still unclear, but it has been speculated that Lauren wanted to try different roles and more films.
Furthermore, her character, Jenny Shepherd, suffered from a degenerative genetic disease, so at some point, writers were going to use that, and they made an excellent story for the fifth season finale. After leaving the show, Holly starred in several movies and television series.
Meanwhile, NCIS fans might already know this, but actress Diona Reasonover appeared for the first time on NCIS on season 15, and fortunately, she is back for season 16 after Pauley’s departure. Both actresses had several scenes together, and Diona had all kinds of compliments for Perrette.
“Pauley was so sweet when I met her. She told me to just be myself, really. She was like, ‘Just bring yourself to this role.’ She has been, I think, such a wonderful grounding force on this show. She’s a really kind, generous person in real life.”
Fans will always be saddened by the departures of their favorite characters, but when a show runs for such a long time, the writers have to come up with exciting new plotlines and new people. Additionally, the stars will always want to move on to different projects because no one wants to stay on the same thing forever.
