Strange Reasons Why Hollywood Says 'No' To These 12 Actors

We know that fame is very fickle; one day someone is the biggest movie star in the world and the next day, no one even remembers their name. This happens all the time in Hollywood and the following list shows which actors are no longer offered roles in films. Let’s take a look at these has-been stars.

1. Dane Cook

About a decade ago, the comedian was one of the biggest in the world, sadly, those days are over, but no one really remembers why. Cook tried to become an actor, but his attempts failed after a series of critically rebuked movies that earned several nominations for the Razzie Awards, an award show for bad acting.

Such films as Employee of the Month and Good Luck Chuck were hated by many viewers, and although movies like Mr. Brooks were better critiqued, no one really paid much attention to the comedian. He stared in the sci-fi movie 400 Days, but unfortunately, it was a box office flop, and his efforts to land a role on Marvel’s Captain America also failed.

2. Jim Carrey

No one could beat Jim Carrey at the box office back in the 1990s, with movies like The Mask, Dumb and Dumber, and Liar, Liar. Each of them grossed more than $100 million, but in 2000, he landed the lead on Me, Myself & Irene, one of the biggest hits of that year, cementing Carrey as a household name in Hollywood.

Sadly, time changes everything quickly, and films like Mr. Popper’s Penguins and The Incredible Burt Wonderstone made the actor lose most of his popularity. Furthermore, his stardom took a hit when his ex-girlfriend, Cathriona White, committed suicide; her family sued the actor for wrongful death, and the battle lasted too long.

3. Matthew Fox

After the end of Lost, the actor basically disappeared from mainstream popularity for several reasons. Firstly, his career in the film industry never took off with the movie Alex Cross failing, and his tiny role in World War Z was mostly overlooked. On the other hand, Fox faced problems personally after being accused of hitting a female bus driver, and then getting a DUI.

4. Jessica Alba

Unfortunately, she was nominated for several Razzie Awards for her roles in movies like Fantastic Four, Awake, and The Eye. Alba tried to place the blame on the writers and directors, but critics expressed that her acting was flat and empty. In 2010, the actress revealed that a director told her to “cry pretty”, and she almost decided to quit acting altogether.

Now, Jessica has decided to put acting on the backburner and dedicate time on raising her children; she has three already. Meanwhile, she founded The Honest Company, a product brand, which was valued at $1 billion in 2015, but sadly, the enterprise was hit with several lawsuits that have decreased its value over the past couple of years.

5. Sarah Michelle Gellar

The actress was type-casted after her role on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, so she had to take parts on horror movies when she wanted to debut on the big screen. Unfortunately, all her roles received horrible critics, and her attempts at other genres with Simply Irresistible and Scooby Doo, failed miserably as well.

6. Billy Zane

His most prominent role was the villain in the blockbuster Titanic, but aside from that, the actor was not able to attract attention. Zane participated in several films that no one would recognize, but his roles on television have been a bit more popular. Sadly, even those did were not around for a long time; Freeform canceled Guilt after the first season.

7. Tom Welling

The actor played the role of Superman for nearly a decade in Smallville, so after the show ended, Welling decided to take a break from stardom. His return to Hollywood has not gone smoothly because wants to pick the best roles. His movies after the WB series have not been that popular, and his attempts at television comeback have flopped as well.

8. Christopher Mintz-Plasse

The actor rose to stardom after playing Fogell/McLovin in the movie Superbad. After that, he has appeared in films like Role Models, Kick-Ass, Pitch Perfect, and Neighbors, but they are basically the same role with a few variations. Mintz-Plasse is trying to reach other genres, and we hope he makes it because the almost-30-year-old is very cool.

9. Katherine Heigl

If you are a fan of Grey’s Anatomy, then you probably know all the drama surrounding this actress, and her favorite hobby: dissing her coworkers. The actress took herself out of the running for an Emmy, stating that the writing was not good enough, and she dissed Knocked Up, her first big screen hit. All that gave her a dive reputation in Hollywood.

"I did not feel that I was given the material this season to warrant an Emmy nomination and in an effort to maintain the integrity of the academy organization, I withdrew my name from contention."

Neither Apatow nor Rhimes has reconciled with the actress, who suffered a hit to her career after leaving Grey’s Anatomy. No one wanted to work with her anymore. However, she is currently making a television comeback on the show Suits, after the departure of Meghan Markle. We hope that she has changed her ways.

10. Jennifer Love-Hewitt

The actress rose to fame after her role on I Know What You Did Last Summer in 1997, but in the early 2000s, she appeared in movies like The Tuxedo and Garfield 2, which were both flops. Later, Jennifer landed the lead in the show The Ghost Whisperer, which was successful for five years, but life took a turn when she wanted her boyfriend cast on the show.

Rumors state that that is why the series was canceled, and then she starred in Criminals Minds, but fans petitioned to have removed from the show. She left in 2015 and has not landed any other roles since then. Hewitt is currently focused on raising her children, and it does not seem likely that she will make a Hollywood comeback.

11. Taylor Momsen

Momsen started her career in the entertainment business at the age of two, modeling with Ford Models. You probably remember her from her role as Jenny Humphrey in Gossip Girl, the good blonde girl that turned goth. However, that transformation got her kicked off the show, and she now focuses on her band The Pretty Reckless.

12. Julia Stiles

The actress was the fresh face of the 1990s, but in the early 2000s, her movies A Guy Thing and Mona Lisa Smile were sadly unpopular, and her career took a nosedive. She appeared on The Omen, and a film called Edmond while maintaining her role in the Bourne movies to survive. Stiles has been working behind-the-scenes since then but wants back in the spotlight.

"I think audiences, producers and directors included, develop crushes on actors (actresses in particular) and then lose interest and move on to the next one. There are a handful of actors who sustain interest because it's exciting to watch them get better at what they do. I want to be one of those actors."

We remember loving these artists once upon a time, and yet now we cannot even remember some of their last movies. It’s crazy that life takes so many turns that one day you can be forgotten quickly, and it proves how hard Hollywood actually is.
