Why Tom Hiddleston Is The Perfect Fit For The Next James Bond

Almost anyone today knows about James Bond. Who could deny that? The famous film series depicts a British special agent, also known as 007, in his different missions and adventures. Along the way, this film series has had its ups and downs. The recent exit of director Danny Boyle from this movie franchise has thrown Eon Productions into a frenzy. Equally shaking has been current reports that actor Daniel Craig would also be leaving after finishing Bond 25 that has a release date set for February 2020. No breathing room for the franchise and the followers, now the next question is who would be the new James Bond?

Many rumors follow who will be cast in the 007 role. Actors like Tom Hardy, Aidan Turner, Henry Cavill, Idris Elba, and even Orlando Bloom have been connected to the part. As of now, we can add Loki actor Tom Hiddleston into the mix as well.

The Actor

Tom Hiddleston is a well-known English actor who began his career in television films and theatre productions like Conspiracy (2001) and Cymbeline (2007). He graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, better known as RADA, in 2005.

He has had many leading roles after he obtained his BA in Acting. Some of those are in Unrelated (2006), The Changeling (2006), Archipelago (2010), among others. He later joined a list of British actors that were guest starred in the medical drama Casualty (2007). On this list, we can find Kate Winslet and Orlando Bloom.

Acknowledgments so far

Over the course of his acting career, he has received many nominations and has won several awards. Among them, we can highlight: the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Newcomer in a Play (Cymbeline), he was also nominated a second time for his roles in Othello, Empire Award for Best Male Newcomer for his role in Thor, and Golden Globe Award for Best Actor-Miniseries or Television Film.

In 2016, Hiddleston won the United Kingdom Rear of the Year Award where the public nominated him. He is considered a high profile actor in the latest British popular culture and listed among the most influential people in England according to Debrett.

Loki: God of Mischief

Today, Tom Hiddleston is best known for his role of Loki, god of mischief in the Marvel Universe. This has been the role where many of us have come to recognize him on the big screen. Many will even affirm this accomplishment as the big break he had on the way.

What not many of us know is that he actually auditioned for the leading role because he had Thor-like characteristics in appearance. Later the director cast him as the antagonist Loki. As the film magazine Empire, we agree that Loki is the greatest portrayal made by Hiddleston yet.

Why him?

It can only be guessed that in this running competition of sorts, his fans are rooting for him to win. In addition, Eon Production has taken into account all his accomplishments in movies, television, and theatre to include him on the short or not so short list of actors with potential to portray James Bond in the future.

Who can say otherwise that he would not be a good 007 agent? Can you imagine? Sure cannot. Just take a look at some of the fan made posters of Hiddleston in Bond attire.

Who else is in the running?

As we have mentioned, there are many other actors in the list of potential James Bond. The odds of some actors are high or low. For example, in latest odds at the end of September, Hardy (2-1), Elba (4-1), Henry Cavill (6-1), Norton (8-1) and Turner (12-1).

Even Henry Cavill has openly stated that he would love the role and if asked he would accept in a heartbeat. He even declared that with his Mission: Impossible badge, he can do real stunts and take it to the next level. He goes to add that he would find it fun to take what he has learned from the previous movie and transfer it to a Bond movie.

However, everything points to Tom Hiddleston as being the franchise’s choice and having the best odds as being selected as the new James Bond.

Barbara Broccoli’s Opinion

Director Broccoli who has been active on the Bond films since the age of 17, has voiced her opinion about having a woman portray the lead role in the movies. She has said that “Bond is male”, and it is fine that way. She continued saying that instead of turning characters into women, they should create female characters with storylines that fit those newly created roles.

She went on touching the subject of how women are illustrated in the Bond movies. She states that the movies have changed as the world has been doing through time and that now they have a more recent view of how women really are at present. She defends that she has been active on that front.

Do not worry, director Broccoli, as we have seen the changes along the way and applaud you on your efforts. Just keep looking on ahead.

Now going back to the beginning. The Bond franchise has amassed a very large audience since its beginnings. Today is considered one of the greatest in the history of the cinema. It is estimated to have collected more than seven billion dollars to date. Also with more than six actors under their belt in the role of 007, we are more than confident they will pick the best actor.

Nevertheless, that does not mean that the public or Tom Hiddleston’s fans would not be happy at the prospect of having their favorite actor playing the role of James Bond; on the contrary, they would be static. We hope that sometime soon we could have a formal announcement about the final decision and end the speculation. We will keep rooting for Tom Hiddleston.
