Soldier is afraid the dog he adopted in Iraq won't remember him until he opens her cage
Nick Pierzchalski, who served for years as a pilot in the Army National Guard, got reunited with the dog that turned out to be a big morale booster for him during his deployment in Iraq. A video report from Fox 13 showed the emotional moment when Pierzchalski met his longtime friend, whom he befriended, during the time of war – a dog named Airys.
The source informed that Perzchalski found the puppy one day as it roamed through the streets of Iraq. He quickly befriended the poor animal and started providing her the care and training that she deserved. Soon, Airys was under Perzchalski’s care after it was confirmed that there was no family to look after the dog.
Nick and Airys friendship was truly special
So during his stay in Iraq, Pierzchalski built Airys a kennel in the hanger and the two remained close ever since. When his overseas duty finally came to a conclusion, he had to return to his homeland of Florida. He was sad to leave Airys behind and vowed to somehow get her out of Iraq and bring her with him to the U.S.
To turn this into a reality, Pierzchalski teamed up with SPCA International, who worked to finally bring Airys to Florida. On the day of the much-anticipated reunion, Pierzchalski was nervous about whether or not Airys would recognize him and what her reaction would be. As Fox News covered the moment live on air, Airys was brought up to Pierzchalski for the first time following after months of separation.
Fox News made a live transmission of the reunion
Airys is a one-year-old shepherd mix, docile and super friendly. Her owner was so excited for seeing her for the first time in months, and Fox News documented every instant of the reunion. This is the kind of news that brightens your day because it is beautiful to see the bond that a dog and a human can have.
When the reporter asked Nick how he felt by the arriving of his dog, he could barely talk. He said that he was pretty nervous and excited as well. He had been waiting too long to have his dog back, that he couldn’t believe that it was finally happening. Nick signed some papers that made him the official Airys’ owner and then they opened the cage to let the dog met her owner.
The dog’s reaction when seeing Nick was totally surprising
When Airys’ cage was opened, the dog’s reaction made it immediately apparent that not only had she remembered Pierzchalski but probably had also missed him. Airys immediately snuggled up to Pierzchalski and when he carried her in his arms, she even licked his face with love, and you even could hear her winning. The heartwarming moment caught on tape has been watched more than 122,000 times.
The dog’s reaction was just amazing. Many would think that animals can’t feel deep emotions, but this video proves them wrong. Animals, especially dogs, can be as sensitive as human beings, and that is why Airys buried her face in Pierzchalski’s big hug when she was released from her travel crate. It was obvious that she remembered Nick.
Nick was speechless
When the interviewer asked Nick how was he feeling now that he had Airys with him, Nick said that he couldn’t put it on words. It was a very emotive moment, and we are sure that made some people cry. Being at the battlefield is no easy thing, and Airys was the one who accompanied Nick in a lot of difficult moments, so of course, they developed an incredible connection that we are sure it will last for many years.
Reunions between these innocent pets and their human friends are always emotionally overwhelming. Over the years, several reports of such heartfelt reunions have come forth that has melted our hearts. Last month in September, another such heartwarming reunion between a local sailor and his dog adopted during his deployment became viral on social media and won everyone’s heart.
