20 Insane Confessions About Harry & Hermione’s Relationship
One of the most important themes in Harry Potter was friendship, and we saw Harry, Ron, and Hermione demonstrate their close bond through the toughest times. Harry and Ron were best friends, but that does not mean that Hermione was far behind in Harry’s heart. Their relationship was incredibly special, and here is everything you need to know about it.
20. Should they have ended up together?
In one interview, J.K. Rowling said that she regretted having Hermione and Ron together at the end, and many fans took that to mean that she wanted her with Harry, but that was not the author’s point. She merely meant that Ron and Hermione’s relationship was too volatile and could have ended in divorce at some point. So, no. Harry and Hermione were not supposed to be a couple.
19. She is James Sirius Potter’s godmother
At the end of Deathly Hallows Part 2, we saw the gang sending their kids to Hogwarts, and we got to see their children. Hermione was named James’ godmother when he was born, and this is significant because his godfather, Sirius, meant a lot to him, even though he only knew the man for a short time.
18. Dumbledore knew how special Hermione was
Harry was always called “The Chosen One”, and Dumbledore loved the kid very much, but after his passing, it became clear that Albus knew that Hermione was the brains of the team, and he gave her all the clues to encounter the rest of Voldemort’s Horcruxes. We all know that Harry and Ron could not have accomplished anything on their own.
17. She kissed Harry
Before you get excited, we are talking about the time when Hermione kissed Harry on the cheek during the Triwizard Tournament. The best kiss happened in the Deathly Hallows, when Hermione and Ron finally reveal their feelings for one another in the midst of the Battle of Hogwarts. It’s not the same, but technically Harry was first.
16. They have similar middle names
Many things are connecting these two characters, aside from their friendship. One of them is their middle names. Harry’s is James and Hermione’s is Jean. They both start with a J, and Harry loves his own because it’s a connection to his dad, but there is not much insight into why Hermione’s muggle parents chose Jean.
15. They both use Bellatrix’s wand
Bellatrix was one of the evilest witches in wizarding history, while Harry and his friends were perhaps the bravest. However, they were forced to use several different wands in Deathly Hallows, and after the encounter at the Malfoy Manor, they end up with the dragon heartstring wand that belonged to Lestrange.
14. They have cuts on their skin
We saw how Umbridge tortured her students with a special quill that would write a message on the skin, slicing the people using it. Harry had to write “I Must Not Tell Lies”. Meanwhile, Hermione was also tortured, though not with this device, but Bellatrix wrote the word “Mudblood” on her arm hoping to mark her forever.
13. She supported Harry through The Goblet of Fire
Ron and Harry feud for the first time in this book because Ron thought that Harry had entered the contest without telling him. They reconnected after the First Task, but Hermione was there for Harry no matter what. This is more evidence that this girl was brilliant because she refused to pick a side in this silly fight.
12. They never fought
Although Harry and Ron had their arguments – because they are boys – Hermione and Harry never fought. Maybe they understood each other in a way that Ron did not. The only time they came close to fighting was when Hermione told Professor McGonagall about Harry’s Firebolt, which ended up confiscated.
11. They are both judged
We saw Hermione getting verbally attack by many other characters because of their prejudice. In The Chamber of Secrets, Malfoy called her a “mudblood”, and we learn that the term is supposed to be degrading for people who have muggle parents. Harry was also judge because of his ability to speak Parseltongue.
10. The only ones with connections to muggles
Their relationship with muggles is also another reason why they were so close. Hermione grew up with muggle parents in the normal world, while Harry was forced to grow up with his muggle uncle and aunt, The Dursleys. However, Ron is a Weasley, one of the oldest pureblood families in the United Kingdom.
9. She remained with Harry in The Deathly Hallows
Hermione supported Harry through the Triwizard Tournament, and she remained by his side during the heated fight between Ron and Harry in the final book. Ron was influenced by Slytherin’s locket, so he got angry and left, but Hermione chose to stay on the mission, knowing that it was important for them to find the remaining Horcruxes.
8. They have time-traveled
Ron injured his leg in The Prisoner of Azkaban, and so, when they have to go back in time to save Sirius from the Dementor’s Kiss, only Hermione and Harry got to go. Hermione had a time-turner all through the third year to attend her many classes, and it was fun seeing how this story handled the concept of going back in time.
7. Harry defended Hermione
Cho Chang was Harry’s first crush, after he noticed her in The Prisoner of Azkaban, and they dated for a short period in The Order of Phoenix, though their relationship never amounted to more. On their only date, Cho insulted Hermione because she was jealous of her relationship with Harry, and he defended his friend immediately.
6. Everyone thought they were together
Back in The Goblet Of Fire, Rita Seeker thought that Harry and Hermione were together, and even Dumbledore thought so at some point. Hermione, Harry and Ron were best friends, but Hermione was always more affectionate towards Harry because of her hidden feelings for Ron. So this was a common mistake.
5. They are only children
James and Lily never had the chance to have other children, and we don’t know why the Grangers did not have more kids, but this is something that separates them from their friend Ron. As you know, the Weasleys have seven children, and Ron is the sixth, which often left him feeling ignored. Harry and Hermione did not grow up with siblings so maybe that’s why they bonded.
4. They both hurt Malfoy at some point
Draco was a bully most of the original story and Harry’s enemy at school. He and Hermione made the Malfoy brat bleed at some point. Hermione did it by hitting him several times in Prisoner of Azkaban, and Harry used a spell made by Snape called Sectumsempra, which hurt him considerably more, and left him bleeding on a bathroom floor.
3. They have both been hurt by the Cruciatus Curse
One of the Unforgivable curses, this spell causes great pain in those it’s inflicted upon. Bellatrix drove the Longbottoms insane after her use of the enchantment. Harry was hurt by it in Goblet of Fire during the graveyard scene, and Hermione was tortured by Bellatrix in the Malfoy Manor in The Deathly Hallows.
2. Harry is alive because of Hermione
Honestly, we know that both Harry and Ron would be dead if she did not exist. There is no way that they could have come up with half the things she did in The Deathly Hallows or how prepared she was to face that adventure. During the gathering to create Dumbledore’s Army, Harry said, “The truth is most of that was just luck. I didn't know what I was doing half the time, I nearly always had help." Yes, he did.
1. Ron was afraid that they would fall in love
As we witnessed in the Deathly Hallows, Ron was scared that Hermione would choose Harry over him when Voldemort’s Horcrux teased him about it. As the sixth child, Ron always felt overlooked in his family and then, he had to live in the shadow of his best friend’s stardom. Luckily, Hermione loved only him.
