Here's 3 Best And 3 Worst Actors To Replace Ben Affleck As DCEU Batman

No matter what you thought of Ben Affleck and his Batman portrayal, it seems that this actor might be out of the DCEU for good. There have been many reports about Warner Bros. taking the franchise to different levels. So let’s take a look at some of the best choices for the role of Batman, and some of the worst.

1. Jack O’Connell (Great choice)

Affleck was originally set to write and direct The Batman, but he stepped down and the role was given to Matt Reeves, better known for the Planet of the Apes reboot. Some early rumors stated that he would adapt the story from Batman: Year One, but it’s still too soon to tell at this time. What will happen for sure, though, is a whole new version of the dark hero.

O'Connell starred in Angelina Jolie’s movie Unbroken, and his name has been a popular choice in early speculation about the next Batman. He might be lacking in experience like some other actors, but since Reeves wants a younger version of the role, Jack could be the perfect man for the job. However, we still have to wait for Warner Bros. to approve this reboot.

2. Armie Hammer (Bad choice)

We have seen this actor in many famous movies like The Lone Ranger, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., The Social Network, Call Me By Your Name, and many others. He has received several awards for his performances, and he is tall enough to suit the role of the Dark Knight. Armie seems to be perfect in theory, but we don’t think he should play Batman.

Warner Bros. needs to take advantage of Affleck leaving the DCEU to infused new blood and stop their bad streak of box-office failures. They need to go in a different direction than simply picking an actor for his renowned name. In other words, it would be completely boring for a new movie to have another famous actor.

3. Riz Ahmed (Awesome choice)

Ahmed became a household name with his role on HBO’s The Night Of, a mini-series that studies the case of New York City murder and features issues of race and justice. The actor was able to portray a developing character perfectly, proving that complex roles are not intimidating to him. He even won an Emmy award for his work.

You probably remember him best for his role in Venom, as the bad guy, Carlton Drake, who later bonds with the symbiote named Riot to destroy the world. He was also seen in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Nightcrawler. Therefore, he is no stranger to superhero films and having a Batman with a different ethnicity could be the twist this reboot needs.

4. Jake Gyllenhaal (Awful choice)

This actor almost became a superhero back when he was being considered to replace Tobey Maguire for Spider-Man 2. Maguire had injured his back during filming for Seabiscuit and was almost booted because Spider-Man, obviously, has to perform all kinds of stunts. Jake was also considered for Batman Begins.

More than any other choice in this list, Gyllenhaal is the most rumored to be replacing Ben Affleck as the Dark Knight, and some industry people have actually said that a deal has already been brokered between the company and the actor. Luckily, he has denied the rumors and stated that he is not interested in the role at all.

5. Oscar Isaac (Good choice)

We have seen this actor nail some of the best characters in movies like Llewyn Davis, A Most Violent Year, and Star Wars. So, we know that his notoriety would be great for the Warner Bros. project, and according to rumors, he has already met with them to talk about a role in The Batman, though we still do not know if he would be playing the lead.

However, if Reeves wants this reboot to focus on a younger Batman, then Isaac might not work in the part. Luckily, we can still dream about him because the story has not been completed yet. Matt Reeves’ adaptation of Batman: Year One has to talk about Bruce Wayne’s beginning and becoming Batman, but it might be focused on one story.

According to an interview with Television Critics Association panel: "I've talked about making it a very point of view noir-driven definitive Batman story in which he is investigating a particular case and that takes us into the world of Gotham. I went on a deep dive again revisiting all my favorite comics. Those all inform by osmosis.” So, if the story is not focused on the origin, an older actor could fit the bill.

6. Idris Elba (Not the best choice)

He might be the Sexiest Man Alive, but Idris Elba is about the same age as Ben Affleck. If the studio wants to boost their DCEU with new blood, they should also think about taking new directions with their work, and choose someone that will not tire of the role for a few years at least. Idris is already an established actor that gets offered many roles on a daily basis, so a younger, less famous person might be better.

All in all, most fans agree that Idris would not fit in the DCEU, especially after being in many renowned films and being part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Heimdall. Now we know that Heimdall died, but could there be a chance of surviving? Elba was also in Stephen King’s The Dark Tower, though the movie failed to please audiences, and Warner Bros. needs to do something to save their superhero franchise which is in a precarious situation at the moment.

What did you think of the best and worst choices to replace Ben Affleck? Do you agree with our picks? Do you have another actor in mind? No matter who plays the role, the story has to be amazing to change the course of the DCEU, and hopefully, a totally different person might just do the trick.
