20 Subtle Details You May Have Missed In 'Captain Marvel' Trailer 2
We cannot wait for the origin movie of the newest superhero in the MCU, Captain Marvel. A new trailer has been released just before the premiere of the new trailer for Avengers 4, and it’s clear that we need to know a lot about her before discovering what the protagonists will do to reverse what happened in Infinity War. Let’s take a look at the most important aspects of this new preview.
Promotional images of Brie Larson have shown her rocking a S.H.I.E.L.D uniform, and this new trailer has finally unveiled the reason which is that Carol Danvers and Nick Fury will try to get into a S.H.I.E.L.D base. It could even be S.H.I.E.L.D’s HQ before the making of Triskelion. We can also see the Stealth Bomber.
2. The Quinjet
Why would Nick and Carol go to the S.H.I.E.L.D base? They needed a flying machine, so they stole a S.H.I.E.L.D Quinjet, and suspicious Fury does not believe that Captain Marvel can drive it, but it’s clear that at this point, she probably remembers a bit about her past life, at least to power that plane. On the first trailer, we saw the Quinjet meeting with a Kree vessel.
3. Talos knows more about Captain Marvel
Actor Ben Mendelsohn plays the role of Talos, the leader of the Skrulls and the main villain in this story, and he says, “Would you like to know what you really are?" This is because Captain Marvel was based on the Kree-Skrull War, where humans got caught in between the battle. It’s possible that Talos will reveal that the Krees were not so nice as Carol thinks.
4. Her helmet
Her helmet with its retractable mechanism was an important aspect of her uniform, designed by Jamie McKelvie in the comics, and the fact that we get to see it on the trailer is even more exciting. Carol Danvers originally wore a swimsuit-like uniform, but McKelvie changed it to something that paid tribute to the Air Force and her military experience.
5. Her origin is closely linked to the Skrulls
We are slowly getting to see more about her origin. Her plane was brought down during the Kree’s war with the Skrulls, and she survived the crash only to face a Skrull soldier. This is a hint that the Skrulls are intrinsically part of Danvers transition to Captain Marvel, and maybe the explosion was due to their war, but we have to remember that her memories were tampered with.
The trailer gave us a lot of beautiful scenes from the Kree’s planet, Hala. We can see all these alien structures which are similar to those presented in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season two. There are also hints that we will get to explore that world in flashback scenes, but those are just rumors at the moment. We might get to see it in Carol’s present.
7. Her crash
An important scene might just give us a clue about Captain Marvel’s origin. It seems that the US Air Force sent her on a mission to check an unknown flying object, but she got in between a dogfight at an alien ship. We are bound to see more of this in the movie, but the fact that Skrulls are involved reveals that this is her origin.
8. Dog tags
One critical clue for Carol Danvers to discover the truth about her past is her dog tags, which she found but they only showed half of her name. The Krees started calling her “Vers” because of that, as they had taken the dog tag with them. It’s possible that she carries with her the other half of the pendant.
Albus Dumbledore is going to play a role in this movie, but when the news came out, people thought he was going to portray Mar-Vell. Now, that the new trailer is out, speculation about Law playing the Kree villain Yon-Rogg have increased. It would definitely explain why he looks so intense in his scene, and he is seen warning Carol that she is not that strong.
10. Falling to Earth
We see the superhero plummeting towards Earth in a scene from the trailer, and she is already wearing a red suit, which suggests that it’s part of the third act of the film. This scene also comes after Jude Law’s chief has issued an important order that could have been shooting the Captain or getting rid of her in the sky.
11. Fighting the Kree
In one part of the preview, we see Danvers fighting against Kree warriors, stating that she has somehow stopped being in cahoots with them. She is in a Kree experimental chamber, but she drops to the floor and sends a radial blast towards the Kree Centurions. This is the first time we see exhibiting her amazing power, so maybe that chamber finally unlocked her true potential.
12. Talos, the villain
Talos seems to be the main villain in this story. In the comic books, we saw him aligning with the Kree extremists like Ronan the Accuser to start a universal war. We have also seen him disguised as a human to infiltrate S.H.I.E.L.D., and he was even Nick Fury’s boss at one point. In the trailer, we saw him leading a S.H.I.E.L.D. team towards Fury and Carol.
The trailer also showed us Ronan the Accuser, played by Lee Pace, and the movie will apparently reveal part of his origin too. It looks like he is leading the Kree Starforce next to Jude Law’s character, but right now, he seems pretty tame, willing to just watch things develop. In the comics, he along with Yon-Rogg plotted to start the Kree-Skrull again.
14. Talos leading S.H.I.E.L.D.
As we mentioned previously, Talos was able to get into S.H.I.E.L.D. and become Nick Fury’s superior. The trailer showed a scene where Talos sent a group of agents against Captain Marvel and Nick Fury, and these agents might be more Skrulls in disguise. Fury probably did something, like bring an unknown person to the base, so it does not look weird to try to apprehend him.
15. Captain Marvel does not want to get involved in the alien war
We see the Captain telling someone, “I’m not gonna fight your war. I’m gonna end it.” This is where she denies joining the Krees and becomes the peacekeeper she is supposed to be. We see a bit of the background which seems to be the Supreme Intelligence, so this scene could take place on Hala. This moment could also solve the mystery of where she went after 1995.
We see several flashbacks in the second trailer as well, and they reveal that Danvers is not a woman to be messed with. She is incredibly resilient and someone who will get back up when she has fallen, no matter how many times she has to. No one can push her down, and both alien races are definitely not going to enjoy that side of her.
17. The Binary Form
This trailer also revealed Captain Marvel’s Binary Form, which is spectacular. The MCU is pulling all the stops to stay as true to the comics with her story as possible. We can even see her hair billowing with the powers of the cosmos. This energy comes from the “White Hole”, according to the comic books. In the movie, she may call her powers forth from the Quantum Realm, which will be part of this story.
18. Danvers vs. Aliens
By the end of the preview, the Captain has shed the yoke of the Krees, and she has decided to end the war between the Skrulls and the Krees once and for all, which means that she might have to face both races in battle. This scene is where we see her Binary Form and shows how she can throw ships to the sky. This is by far, some of the most amazing powers of any superhero in the MCU, so we can assume that she will help later on in Avengers 4.
19. Goose the Flerken
Nick Fury is shown saluting Carol’s special cat, who in the comics is called Chewie. In the movie, however, he has been given the name Goose, in honor of Top Gunn. Fans of the comic books might remember that Goose is not just a cat but a Flerken, a race of aliens that have interdimensional portals within them and can become feral.
20. Scenes in space
We see Captain Marvel going into space by the end of the trailer, and there are no other spaceships around, which could mean that this part of the ending sequence as Carol has done her job of protecting the world and has decided to take flight to continue her mission. This would be a great way to end the epic female superhero film, but we wonder what the post-credit scene might be.
