5 Marvel Characters Who Could Destroy Thanos Alone In A Hearbeat
Marvel Studios already has 20 movies on their slate, and have introduced a surplus of villains to their cinematic universe. Some of them have even won the hearts of fans, such as Tom Hiddleston’s, Loki, and Vincent D'Onofrio's, Kingpin. But in 2018 with Avengers: Infinity War, Marvel Studios has formally introduced one of their most powerful villains yet, and his name was Thanos.
This Mad Titan's had a long, villainous history in the Marvel comics and has lurked in the shadows for several of the MCU films. Finally, Thanos has stepped out of the shadows to wreak havoc on the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He may be one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe, especially when equipped with his Infinity Gauntlet, but surprisingly, there are some Marvel characters that could kill the Mad Titan in mere seconds.
So, let's have a look at these characters who could obliterate Thanos when he's not wielding the Infinity Gauntlet.
He is one of the Marvel Universe's most powerful villains and rules the Dark Dimension. He is also one of Doctor Strange’s most formidable foes and is so powerful, that he cannot be killed. As depicted in Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange and in the comics, the Sorcerer Supreme has only defeated Dormammu by trapping him in his own dimension, crippling him from ever reaching the Earth realm. Thank goodness for that!
Also known as the Lord of Chaos or the Lord of Darkness, Dormammu’s powers extend from harnessing pure mystical energy to interdimensional teleportation to the creation of artificial life. He is a god in his own dimension and with a flick of his fingers, Thanos would be destroyed. There are infinite ways that Dormammu could kill Thanos, and you see them in one of Dormammu's scenes in Doctor Strange.
The son of Professor X, and an Omega Level Mutant, David Haller, known as Legion, could possibly be the most dangerous mutant in the Marvel Universe. In addition to his telepathy and telekinesis, Haller is able to warp reality at will, and even travel through time. His most striking abilities, as well as his most intimidating, are his split personalities. Each personality possesses different superpowers and at times, they are able to completely take control of Haller’s body.
There are many ways Haller could destroy Thanos. FX’s Legion, Haller, demonstrated that he is the most powerful mutant in the X-Men cinematic universe. When he fought against Division 3, the show’s main group of villains with only a thought, Haller dissected an army of highly-weaponized soldiers by immersing their bodies into concrete. He also created a totally different reality by linking Syd Barrett’s mind with his. It looks like Thanos has no chance against Legion.
3. The Living Tribunal
The Living Tribunal is one of the most powerful characters in the Marvel Universe, after the One Above All. He exists outside the boundless multiverse and works to protect it by maintaining the cosmic balance. Due to his near-godlike abilities, Thanos would never be able to face the Living Tribunal. If he ever did, he would surely die in seconds. Even if Thanos wielded the Infinity Gauntlet, he would be no match against the Living Tribunal.
You can see this in the six-issue series if you need a refresher. When Adam Warlock united the toughest cosmic forces of Earth-616 to kill Thanos, Warlock urged the Living Tribunal to help him, but the Tribunal refused, believing that Thanos would bring balance to the universe. If the Living Tribunal had negotiated, it’s possible that the aftermath of the battle between Thanos and Earth’s heroes would have come to a speedier termination.
Known as the Devourer of Worlds, and recently, the Seeder of Worlds. Before Galactus was turned into the Lifebringer of the Marvel Universe after Secret Wars in 2015, he was the walking apocalypse of every troubled planet that satisfied his appetite. He is one of the oldest beings in the Marvel Universe, as well as one of the most dominant. He contains the Power Cosmic, which is a form of extraordinary cosmic energy that allows him to perform impossible deeds.
It is virtually impossible to defeat Galactus in his normal content state. However, he is deprived of food, and near starvation. This would make him vulnerable to defeat, but even then, as in Fantastic Four issue 243, it took the combined strength of the Fantastic Four and the Avengers to bring him down. If Thanos faced Galactus post-Secret Wars, then he would truly have no chance since the Lifebringer version of Galactus is more powerful than the previous version; the Lifebringer doesn’t need to devour planets in order to survive.
1. Molecule Man
He is perhaps one of the deadliest characters in the Marvel Universe. After his accident involving Cosmic Cube energy, Reese had the ability to control matter to the molecular level on a multiversal scale. His transformation into the Molecule Man even created the interdimensional portal that allowed the Beyonder to make the first contact with Earth. At first, Molecule Man could only manipulate inorganic matter, but during the Secret Wars issue 11, he was shown how to control organic material.
This ability essentially makes him a god, and a deadly opponent. One way Molecule Man could defeat Thanos in seconds is by rearranging Thanos’s body to whatever form Reese wishes. In other words, Molecule Man could disintegrate Thanos with just a thought! His powers are so limitless, that in Secret Wars 2015, issue 9, it was revealed that Molecule Man existed as one within the multiverse, and each version of himself in all realities are like pieces of a puzzle that form one entity when combined.
