Infinity War Theory Debunked: Comic Reveals Iron Man's Savior And Is Not What Fans Expected
While the first trailer of Avengers: Endgame only gave us a little glimpse into the lives of our favorite superheroes after the effects of Thanos’ snap, it did not really reveal much regarding the plot or how they are going to reverse things. Luckily, there is a Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame Prelude comic which has already discredited a popular Infinity War theory. Let’s see what this is about, shall we?
Now, do not worry because Doctor Strange’s words about “endgame” can still be correct. Any arguments regarding the Time Stone or time travel to stop Thanos’ snap, otherwise known as the decimation, are still valid. The theory that has been officially debunked in this new comic is one involving Pepper Potts; one that fans were really sure was going to be realized in Endgame.
The speculation involved Tony’s love being the one to rescue him after he gets lost in space, and it was definitely one of the most exciting theories that developed after viewers saw Infinity War, but the evidence presented in the comic book has indeed denied these rumors. So let’s find out why we no longer believe that this is possible.
If you have been trolling Reddit and Forums online, reading all the outlandish theories about the possible outcomes of Avengers: Endgame, then you know about this one. It starts with Tony and Pepper being at peace with each other and thinking about a future family. Remember that dream that Stark was talking about in Infinity War? Well, that whole happy bubble gets destroyed when Doctor Strange and Bruce Banner came along.
Tony goes with them to learn more about this villain Thanos and his quest for the Infinity Stones, leaving Potts behind yet again. Stark also learns about the Mad Titan’s reason, as silly as they may seem, for trying to accomplish this mission, when the Black Order arrives in New York in search of the Time Stone, which Doctor Strange is safeguarding with the Eye of Agamotto.
Iron Man and Spider-Man, who turned to dust, managed to get to the donut ship, and a call comes in from Pepper, which could end up being the last time he ever spoke to the love his life. This scene is very similar to the one in Avengers when Iron Man left Earth not knowing if he would come back. They eventually lose communication as the spaceship moves farther away.
It was like the couple really said goodbye at this moment because Pepper was distraught that Tony had boarded that spacecraft, but sadly, Tony did not get to say much before the connection got lost. However, this theory states that Potts was able to record one final sentence before her voice gets cut off, saying “I’m going too.”
Most fans online took that to mean that Pepper was going on a rescue mission and donning her own Iron Man suit, as she said she was going after him. However, we honestly believed that Potts was giving her boyfriend an ultimatum, meaning that Tony either got off that ship or Pepper would be gone too. However, the speculation regarding this theory had everyone sure that we would see her using an armor.
But, according to the comic book interpretation of this scene, the theory does not hold. Even though, some theorists presented pretty substantial evidence that it could happen. For example, Iron Man’s new A.I. assistant, FRIDAY, was given a female voice. If you remember, he had to get this new version once JARVIS became Vision. Some fans said that the voice belonged to Pepper.
Others pointed out that the sound was completely robotic, or if you want to get technical, the actress providing that voice is Kerry Condon and not Gwyneth Paltrow. However, it was hard to hear the conversation in some parts, so people were confused. Luckily, Marvel’s Avengers: Untitled Prelude, which adapted the events of Infinity War into printed form.
That was its original name, but now that we know that the fourth movie will be titled Endgame, it’s bound to change to Avengers: Endgame Prelude. In the bubble speech of this particular scene, we get the full details that might have been a bit confusing in the film because of the broken connection, and the final message was not uttered by Pepper Potts at all. The A.I. FRIDAY says the words:
“Boss, we're losing her. I'm going, too..."
Do not get discouraged yet
Sometimes, fans get sad when their thought-out theories get debunked, but this first discredited presumption might be good news for people who love Pepper Potts. The main reason this theory came to existence was that they were all hoping to see Tony’s love interest don an Iron Man suit and become RESCUE in the MCU. After all, the RESCUE Armor was built specifically for her in the comic books.
Luckily, actress Gwyneth Paltrow took a picture wearing the armor during Avengers 4 filming, and those images were leaked online rapidly. We have no idea why she has to put on the suit yet, and it’s better not to get spoiled before watching the film, but seeing her in one of the outfits is going to be fantastic for comic book fans and all other viewers as it’s time to get more female power in the MCU.
You might remember getting a glimpse of her in the armor in Iron Man 3. Although this theory never talked about her actual plan of rescuing Tony, now that we have official evidence that disproves it, we can move on to others that might actually happen. Moreover, we can look forward to whatever Marvel and the Russo Brothers have in store for us regarding Pepper as well.
What do you think about this debunked theory? Is it possible that Pepper will play a much more significant role in this movie than ever? Would you like to see the girls in the MCU saving the universe more than the boys? We are getting so pumped about the next film that it’s hard to wait for it any longer.
