Probably The Most Plausible Way of How Ant-Man Escaped From The Quantum Realm
Ant-Man did not appear in Avengers: Infinity War, and Ant-Man and the Wasp took place before the events of Thanos’ invasion. However, the post-credits scene showed us that Scott Lang got trapped in the Quantum Realm because the rest of the team were turned to dust. Therefore, fans are all wondering how he will get out of that realm and help the Avengers. Let’s dive into this.
Escaping the Quantum Realm
It has been speculated for months that Ant-Man might be a significant character in Endgame. Marvel has even stated that Infinity War, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Captain Marvel, and Avengers: Endgame all follow a connected narrative, so the fact that they left Scott alive inside that mysterious plane of existence cannot be a coincidence.
We saw in the first trailer of Endgame that he was actually able to get out of there and drive to the Avengers’ compound. Moreover, the official artwork for Avengers 4 showed Scott working next to the rest of the superheroes towards a common goal, which is presumably reversing the effects of the Decimation.
However, the trailer showed him out of the Quantum Realm, and most assume that the first teasers only showed the beginning of the movie, so how did he get out without help? It’s a considerably impressive taking into account that Janet Van Dyne was stuck in there for almost 30 years before they were able to rescue her once the timing was right.
There are several clues that could explain how Scott accomplished this tricky escape. In the post-credits scene of Ant-Man and The Wasp, Janet gave him an essential piece of advice: “Don't get sucked into a time vortex. We won't be able to save you." Most science fiction stories interpret the term “time vortex” as the way to jump through space and time, and it derives from Albert Einstein’s theories.
It is safe to assume that Janet, with her impressive intellect and experience inside the Quantum Realm, understands the dangers of those whirlpools. Clearly, she never tried jumping into one of them to try to escape back when she was stuck, as no one knows where, or when, you might end up after going through a vortex.
There is also the chance that you could end up in another dimension like those described in Doctor Strange, and who would be crazy enough to take that risk? Well, Scott Lang fits that profile perfectly. He is not as smart as the scientists and jumps into situations without thinking about the possible outcomes of his actions.
If he encountered himself stuck with no way of actually getting out, then he could have easily tried one of those things and discovered a way to time travel, even if it was just by chance. Furthermore, he is luckily wearing the Ant-Man suit, which means that if he ends up in a bad place, he could just shrink back, enter the Quantum Realm, and try again.
So far, everything he has accomplished seems to be driven by luck, so he might just achieve his desired objective without much thought. Another clue that could explain his escape was shown in the trailer for Avengers: Endgame, where he drove up to the compound with the van that has the tiny version of the Quantum Tunnel.
Now, his movie implied that this device could only be operated by people outside the realm, but could Hank Pym have added a new feature in case something fails or the people outside cannot help? After all, he learns from mistakes and goes about creating options just in the event of catastrophes. Some believe that the tunnel is the way Scott got out.
Both clues seem pretty plausible with the information we have at the moment, but the first one is a lot more interesting, especially because there have been several indications that the Avengers might time travel in Endgame. We are assuming that there is something in the past that they need to change in order to stop the Mad Titan.
However, it could also be the result of Lang going through a time vortex and appearing at a previous point in the MCU. It would explain why it was so important to release Ant-Man and the Wasp right after Infinity War and have detailed explanations about the Quantum Realm. At this point, no one knows if the Avengers have another way of going back in time, so this would work.
Leaked photos from the set revealed that our heroes were apparently recreating the Battle of New York from the first Avengers, but Scott Lang was among them. It is hard to tell if he got there by mistake and joined the heroes or if it is part of a bigger plan that they have come up with. From the Endgame trailer, we discovered that Captain American and Black Widow have something up their sleeves.
However, they might have changed their minds after learning about Scott and the Quantum Realm, which we are assuming they do not know anything about it. The only person who could have known about that plane of existence, besides Hank Pym and family, is perhaps Doctor Strange. He might have seen that Scott was an important part of the sole winning outcome he saw in the future.
Many have wondered why Stephen put up such a fight against Thanos on Titan to end up giving him the Time Stone and telling Tony, “We’re in the endgame now.” There are theories that state that he might have been buying time so that the snap would happen at the perfect moment, and Scott would end up stuck in that realm.
What did you think of these theories regarding Ant-Man participation in the upcoming film? They all sound pretty interesting, but sadly, no one will know more about it until the next trailer and until the movie is released.
