10 "Dead" Characters and 3 Other Surprising Heroes Confirmed To Appear in 'Avengers: Endgame'
We’re only a few months away from the premiere of ‘Avengers: Endgame’, and fans cannot wait to learn which of our favorite characters will be brought back. Some superheroes were turned to dust after Thanos’ snap while others died in other ways, but we expect Marvel to bring back many. We also presume appearances from heroes that were not in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’. Let’s get into the details.
“Dead” superheroes that will come back
The God of Mischief was originally not supposed to be such a huge part of the MCU, but fans loved Tom Hiddleston so much that Loki has already “died” once and came back. It’s pretty safe to assume that he will be brought back somehow in the upcoming film. His relationship with Thor was complicated, but both loved each other dearly.
He was killed by Thanos at the beginning of ‘Infinity War’, and the Mad Titan even said, “No resurrections this time.” However, if the theories about time travel are true, especially those that say they will be going back to the battle of New York in ‘The Avengers’, then we will see Loki again, and they might change the timeline so that he never died.
It’s crazy to think that a character that was just introduced to the MCU and one of the main Marvel heroes of all time will be snuffed out so quickly. Furthermore, we have just been treated to the first trailer of ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’, which is set just after the events of ‘Endgame’. Therefore, Tom Holland’s return as the spider hero is a sure thing.
Her death in ‘Infinity War’ was heartbreaking, especially because we witnessed Thanos’ pain, and before that scene, no other villain in the MCU had demonstrated any kind of real depth and conflicting thoughts. However, the Mad Titan still threw his daughter off a cliff to obtain the Soul Stone, and this is one death that seemed pretty real because it wasn’t due to the Decimation.
On the other hand, because her death was used to obtain that gem, it’s said that her soul is trapped inside it, which also allegedly holds the souls of all those who turned to dust. Meanwhile, actress Zoe Saldana has Instagrammed pictures of herself in Gamora makeup. Therefore, the daughter of Thanos will be back.
While Falcon disappeared after Thanos’ snap, actor Anthony Mackie was seen in Atlanta during the reshoots for ‘Endgame’. The future of Captain America is uncertain now that Chris Evans has said goodbye to the MCU, and Falcon took the mantle in the comic books at one point, so we are expecting his story to continue.
5. Bucky Barnes
Actor Sebastian Stan has confirmed that Bucky will be back as he also suffered from the effects of the Decimation. Bucky could also take on the mantle of Captain America after Chris Evans leaves the MCU, but the White Wolf has a lot to resolve personally before that. However, we hope to see his character develop more in ‘Endgame’.
6. Nick Fury
The super spy has not been shown in the MCU for a while, and although we are getting to see more of his origin in ‘Captain Marvel’, it would be great to witness him in action during ‘Endgame’. Samuel L. Jackson has been confirmed for the film, and one theory says that Doctor Strange traveled back in time to tell Fury about the fight with Thanos and how to defeat him.
7. Hope Van Dyne
The characters from ‘Ant-Man’ were not seen in ‘Infinity War’, but in the post-credits scene of ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’, we saw that Scott Lang was in the Quantum Realm after Thanos’ snapped his fingers. The rest of the team, Hope, Jane, and Hank Pym, were turned to dust. However, that definitely won’t be the last scene with Hope as she just became the Wasp.
Actress Evangeline Lily has confirmed her return in ‘Endgame’, and while her appearance might be brief, it’s suspected that she could show up with Captain Marvel, as Lily said that she got to know Brie Larson well. The actress also revealed that the MCU would be releasing more films led by female superheroes like Black Widow and Scarlet Witch.
8. Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne
Sebastian Stan accidentally revealed that Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer were part of a huge scene in ‘Endgame’ with all the major superheroes in one place. Furthermore, since Hank Pym is a pioneer of the technology to enter the Quantum Realm, and it’s expected that that plane of existence will be important in the upcoming movie, we will be seeing him again.
Vision was killed by Thanos after he removed the Mind Stone from the A.I.’s forehead, but can you really murder a machine? They had hinted that Vision was more than just the Mind Stone, so it’s likely that they will find a way to bring him back. On the other hand, Scarlet Witch is also expected to return, mostly because of his solo series on Disney +, and she will fight to have her lover back.
10. The rest of the Guardians
Rocket Raccoon was the only Guardian of the Galaxy not affected by the Decimation, or killed by Thanos like Gamora. However, it’s expected that all the others will be returning as Chris Pratt apparently filmed a scene with Letitia Wright, who plays Shuri, and Pom Clementiff, Mantis, had shots with Scarlet Witch. Dave Bautista also confirmed his appearance in ‘Endgame’.
Surprising characters expected back
1. The Ancient One
This character played by Tilda Swinton was the reason Doctor Strange became so good at the mystic arts, but it was discovered in his film that she managed to extend her life by tapping into the Dark Dimension, a somewhat taboo action. She was also injured during a battle and presumed dead, but her name appears in the list of actors for ‘Endgame’ on IMDb.
If she is, in fact, dead, then her possible appearance is also more evidence to support the theory of time travel in the upcoming project. Furthermore, Mark Ruffalo talked about working with Tilda recently, but we know that the Hulk was not in ‘Doctor Strange’, and she has not appeared in any other MCU movie. We wonder what her role in this story is.
Another surprising entry in IMDb is actor Frank Grillo, who plays the role of Brock Rumlow a.k.a. Crossbones. In ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’, we saw that this character was a secret agent for HYDRA that had infiltrated S.H.I.E.L.D., and we also saw him die in ‘Captain America: Civil War’. However, the actor revealed that his appearance is part of a flashback, and not really a “resurrection”.
3. Harley Keener
Actor Ty Simpkins portrayed the boy who helped Tony Stark repair his armor during ‘Iron Man 3’. Before Tony’s relationship with Peter Parker, there was a similar connection with Harley Keener. At the end of the film, Tony had given the boy a brand new garage with all kinds of cool technology, but no one expected him to come back. Since it’s speculated that Iron Man could die in ‘Endgame’, we have to wonder what Harley’s role will be.
What did you think of those confirmed back for ‘Avengers: Endgame’? We might not know how these heroes will be back after their deaths or the Decimation, but it’s good to know that we will be seeing the actors in some form or another.
