Meghan Markle reportedly revealed due date while chatting to well-wishers in a $1,200 coat
Many things regarding the upcoming royal baby are kept a secret from the public until after his birth. However, the former actress may have announced a tiny detail to her fans in a significant public appearance. She was also rocking a gorgeous outfit that perfectly showcased her baby bump, and the expectant mother looks more radiant than ever.
SPILLING THE BEANS
On Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s first joint royal engagement for the year, Meghan reportedly announced her due date, much to the crowd’s delight. The royal couple touched down in Merseyside that morning where they met with various local organizations that aim to support and empower the community.
Meghan looked colorful in a figure-hugging $137 purple dress by Aritizia and wrapped up in a $1,200 red coat from the Canadian brand, Sentaler, and matching stilettos. This is the first time she fashioned these hues together, trading her usually dark tones for a more cheerful vibe. At one point she tied her coat’s belt revealing the shape of her maturing baby bump. She cemented her look with red pumps courtesy of Stuart Weitzman.
Between visits with various organizations, the couple went for a walkabout amongst the crowd, where she not only asked what the people thought would be a good name for a girl, but also her due date! The royal couple who’s expecting their first child in the spring visited the town of Birkenhead, Merseyside where they met with various organizations that support groups within the community.
One of the several royal correspondents that follow the royal couple, Chris Ship was astonished when he overheard Meghan share the month of her due date in conversation Meghan had with one of the women in the crowd. Excitedly Chris shared:
“For those who want to know about these things: Meghan told one lady in the crowd that she is six months pregnant and another woman that her due date is around April." Much speculation surrounding her pregnancy has done the rounds since the announcement that Meghan is expecting last October. Furthermore, she was asked if the baby was a boy or a girl, but the Duchess said she did not know.
The couple stayed close to each other during their outing which included a walkabout and a visit to Hamilton Square where crowds gathered to honor them. Harry’s hand rested protectively on his wife’s back as they went along their duties. While greeting people, the Duke of Sussex received a teddy bear, a gift for their unborn child. Meanwhile, Meghan acknowledged that he would be a “fantastic father”.
With an absence of information given by the royals, it has led to many rumors including that she is expecting twins, to not expecting at all, or that she has been less than forthcoming about how far along with her pregnancy she is. A subject which has been of less discussion to date is the question of godparents to the new royal on the way.
As for the list of possibilities, it won’t include any immediate royal family, so Kate Middleton is off the list. Since immediate family members will be in the child’s life anyway, they don’t get considered as godparents. There are a few possibilities that spring to mind when possible options for the godparents of Prince Harry and Meghan’s first bundle of joy get mentioned.
Misha and ex-husband Alexander Gilkes introduced the couple, as Prince Harry and Alexander attended school together. The Clooney’s are hot favorites for the position as the two couples are said to be close, and that they are “all but confirmed” while a source said that “Amal and Meghan have been close for years, and Harry and George have become buddies because of that. They're much closer than the headlines let on."
Also on the list is Ben and Jessica Mulroney. Jessica is said to be Meghan’s best friend and stylist, while their kids were also part of Prince Harry and Meghan’s royal wedding party. Another exciting option is Zoe and Jake Warren. These friends of Harry attended their wedding, while Jake was a godson to the late Princess Diana, and still have strong family ties to this day.
A close friend of Meghan is also featured. Lindsay Jill Roth and Meghan had been friends since college. But who ends up with the coveted role remains to be determined, or perhaps just not known to the public as of yet. However, Meghan might have her hands full over the next few weeks as her bodyguard had reportedly just resigned after six months of service.
LOSING A MEMBER OF HER SECURITY
Meghan’s latest outing comes in the heels of news of her bodyguard quitting after six months of service. The unnamed female security who was appointed a key position is reportedly leaving the Met Police, prompting her to relinquish her duties with the Duchess. Rumors also circulated that another reason she’s leaving is the Duchess herself. The pregnant royal is reportedly struggling with her independence while dealing with the constant presence of security.
This is the third member of Meghan’s staff who resigned in just a few months. A few weeks earlier, her assistant also left after six months of working for her. The woman who was tasked to teach Meghan the ways of a duchess also retired after working for 17 years for Queen Elizabeth. However, her resignation was already on the horizon even before she took on the temporary role of teaching Meghan.
MEETING WITH THE DUKE AND DUCHESS
Meghan and Prince Harry revealed that they decided to keep the baby’s sex a surprise. Rebecca Blundell, a mother of three who lives in Birkenhead, brought her two daughters along to the event and got to speak to the royal couple. According to Rebecca, Prince Harry came over to talk to them, he knelt in order to speak to 2-year-old Lottie, and then to 6-year-old Lily.
After enquiring about the baby's name, he turned around to walk off but turned back and asked whether Lily is spelled with an I or Y. Immediately this stuck out to Rebecca as a name choice the Royals may be mauling over. Then Meghan came over and gushed about what a fantastic father she envisions Prince Harry will be.
The fan, Rebecca, told Meghan that the Duchess would be a great mother as well, which Meghan found touching. Prince Harry and Meghan knelt as 16 randomly chosen pupils, who are all blind, got to meet the couple, and they allowed the youngsters to feel their faces. During their visit, Meghan received bouquets and also an adorable baby jumper with the words, ‘Born in 2019’ from Megan O’Carroll and her eight-year-old son, Harry Edwards, from St. Werburgh.
The Duke and Duchess then traveled to a Feeding Birkenhead citizen’s supermarket and community cafe, called Number 7, where they officially opened the new premises during their surprise visit. Today was another first for the Duchess of Sussex as she paid a visit to one of her newly announced patronages, the animal group Mayhew in Kensal Green, London.
Meghan stepped out in a cream maternity dress by H&M with an Armani coat and received a warm welcome from volunteers, staff, and beneficiaries. A dog owner herself, the Duchess saw first hand how the charity operates, what their ongoing projects are and how everything is designed to improve the lives of both people and animals.
While being pregnant and on her feet often, especially during official engagements, it must be a relief to the Duchess of Sussex that she had learned one trick long ago. Meghan has been spotted on numerous occasions wearing shoes that seem just a tad too big. Harriet Davey, a fashion expert, shared the reason:
"Celebs often go a size up, or even two, in the shoe department when they're at an event or on the red carpet, and it's for one reason we can all relate to — to avoid blisters." Hopefully, Meghan has shoes big enough to accommodate any swelling she may have during her pregnancy while out and about.
HOW IS THE COUPLE PREPARING FOR A NEW BABY
According to the Irish bookmaker Paddy Power, almost everyone is betting that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are expecting a girl, so they even stopped betting on the gender of the upcoming royal baby. Furthermore, if the baby is a girl, the public believes that she will be named after the late Princess Diana, and if not, names like Alice, Victoria, Grace, and Elizabeth could also be options.
The couple will also be celebrating their first wedding anniversary a couple of weeks after the birth of their child, and it seemed that both of them were just meant to become parents at some point, even before their fateful meeting in 2016. Prince Harry told Britain’s Sky News in 2015, “Of course, I would love to have kids right now, but there is a process that one has to go through. It would be great to have someone else next to me, but the time will come. Whatever happens, happens."
That same year, Meghan Markle told Lifestyle Magazine: “My life is more amazing than I ever thought it could be. I dreamt of becoming a successful working actress, which I can now very thankfully tick off the list. And I also dream to have a family.” Their work with children’s charities all over the world in the months after their marriage has proven that they will be wonderful parents.
"It's all about balance, and I have so much happiness in my career and am fortunate to travel the world and see so many amazing things—it will also be nice to be anchored to something grounded and in the same place. Raising a family will be a wonderful part of that."
What do you think of Meghan and Prince Harry's happy news? Are you betting on the gender or the name of the baby? If it's a girl, she will be one of the most beautiful babies in the royal family, and we hope they really do name her Diana.
