Meghan Markle's Father Revealed Her Letter That Shows True Tragedy of Their Split
It is no secret for anyone that the Duchess of Sussex has a complicated and estranged relationship with her whole family except her mother. His father, specifically, did not attend her wedding and gave controversial interviews to media outlets that revealed all the dirty laundry of the Markles.
We believed that Meg had remained silent after all those attacks, but it turns out that she opened her heart and soul in a moving yet shocking letter that she wrote to her alienated father soon after her wedding. The new piece of writing that recently emerged truly tells us how their relationship is and how Meghan feels about it. We have all the details covered in this article. Take a look!
A BIT OF CONTEXT ABOUT THE FAMILY'S BREAKDOWN
In case you don't know how everything started, the family drama for the Duchess began even before she became a royal. Once the former actress announced her engagement to Prince Harry, her family, including her dad and half-siblings, released a series of backlashes.
First of all, we have the royal's father, Thomas Markle. As News Australia reported, just days before Meg's big day last May, Thomas conspired with some paparazzi in order to stage some photos for lucrative opportunities. Moreover, he was going back and forth on his decision to attend the royal wedding until he decided not to do so for apparent health reasons following his two heart attacks and surgery.
Since then, their relationship went down the road. As for her sister, Samantha Markle, she wrote a controversial book called 'The Diary of Princess Pushy’s Sister,' and Meghan's half-brother, Thomas Jr. publicly urged Prince Harry not to marry his conceited sister, telling him she was not the right woman for her.
AND THE FAMILY DRAMA GOES ON
It seemed that tensions were defused when it came to the Duchess' family as little was heard about it, and the world was concentrating on Meghan's upcoming baby. However, a new interview that emerged last week created a buzz. According to Daily Mail, some close friends of Harry's wife opened up to put the record straight over her relationship with her father.
The same source revealed that one of those confidantes is possibly one of Meghan's co-stars in the TV program 'Suits'; however, the identities of the five are still unknown. On the other hand, it seems that the mother-to-be came under fire after the revelation that she presumably allowed her mates to stand up for her in that rare interview to People Magazine.
Kensington Palace has declined to make any comments over the matter, but Dickie Arbiter, former press secretary in Buckingham Palace, commented on the situation, expressing his fear that the interview would only intensify the problems. Arbiter stated:
"Assuming – and as these sources are anonymous we don’t know for sure – that this was done with her agreement, it has opened a Pandora’s box. The issue with her father is an open wound, and I’m not entirely sure it is the best idea to aggravate that."
According to the Daily Mail, experts have also claimed that the Duchess of Sussex is walking on a dangerous path by having her friends correct the falsehood about her and presumably passing over the press office in the palace. And it seems that Arbiter and the connoisseurs were more than right!
THE PANDORA'S BOX
The same source explained that the article in the magazine showed Meg in a glowing light, also revealing an apparently private and loving letter that a heartbroken daughter wrote to Thomas in the hope of healing the rupture between them. Allegedly, the five friends also tilted at Thomas with some of her comments.
And it turns out that the decision of Meghan's friends created a counterproductive effect as Thomas had no choice but to disclose the famous letter to the public. According to the source, the message vilified Meghan's father without being true. The former director also said:
"It was presented as her reaching out and writing a loving letter in the hope of healing the rift, but the letter isn’t like that at all. Meghan can’t have it both ways. She can’t use the press to get her message across but hang me out to dry. I have the right to defend myself."
Moreover, Mr. Markle stated that the five-page missive had been hidden in his briefcase inside a FedEx envelope since his daughter sent it in August last year and that he hadn't share it with anyone since it was too painful. Thomas added he was longing for the pathway to reconciliation, but the piece of writing was intensely hurtful.
Because of his devastation and also because of his respect to Meghan, he was expecting not to show it to anyone, if it hadn't been for the magazine article. Thomas indicated he was forced to do so since the content of the missive was falsely portrayed, and he needed to clarify that.
THE INFAMOUS LETTER
Thomas claimed that the letter was far from being conciliatory. Instead, the written bombshell in Meghan's elegant and distinctive script lays bare the real extents of the family estrangement. She opened the letter with a sad message, claiming that she wrote it with a heavy heart as she didn't understand why her daddy had decided to turn a blind eye to the pain he's been causing. She continued:
"Your actions have broken my heart into a million pieces -not simply because you have manufactured such unnecessary and unwarranted pain, but by choosing to not tell the truth as you are puppeteered in this. Something I will never understand."
The message proceeds with an objection from Meghan to Thomas for not contacting her to tell her that he was not going to the wedding, for fabricating stories about being neglected and telling them to the press, and for disdaining her offer to attend and help at the wedding following his two heart attacks.
Moreover, she reproached him for his ungratefulness towards the money she has provided him. According to the letter, Thomas has never revealed that he had sent Meghan an e-mail asking for financial help to move house. Part of the missive reads, "if you could help me more not as a bargaining chip for my loyalty."
The Duchess also highlighted that she has always protected, loved, and worried about him. Following his two heart attacks, she called, texted, and begged him to accept some help, but he decided not to answer his phone and talk to the tabloids instead. However, Mr. Markle claimed that he was at the hospital and that his daughter knew what was going on. Another part of the letter says:
"If you love me, as you tell the press you do, please stop. Please allow us to live our lives in peace. Please stop lying,; please stop creating so much pain; please stop exploiting my relationship with my husband... I realize you are so far down this rabbit hole that you feel there's no way out..."
According to the Mexico resident, the part of the rabbit hole was pure Harry as Americans do not use that expression. He also cleared up that he has never attacked the Prince, contrary to what the letter says about him criticizing the Queen's grandson in the press. "I asked him to man up," he clarified.
Furthermore, in anguished tones, the mother-to-be rebuked her father for siding with Samantha, her half-sister who attacked her in the press and wrote a book about her. "You watched me silently suffer at the hands of her vicious lies," the missive stated. Finally, she blamed him for not reaching her out since the wedding, something the 74-year-old father said to be false and that he had text messages to prove it.
Thomas also seized the opportunity to clear things up regarding the comment of Meghan's friends in the interview. The unknown informers said that Thomas hadn't called or texted his daughter; however, during the very moment of his conversation with Daily Mail, he even tried calling his daughter, but the service was restricted or unavailable. He then said the number worked until a couple of weeks ago, but Meghan says "it hasn't changed."
As for the missive, he added that it had no love on it as it was not even mentioned. It was rather cold and felt like a farewell to him. Mr. Markle also revealed he sent a four-page letter to Meghan in September in response to her message, taking the time to address all her accusations; however, he doesn't know whether she received it or not.
It seems that the estrangement between Duchess Meghan of Sussex and Thomas Markle is far from being healed, but who do think has made the most significant effort to solve the rift?
