9 Things Common People (Like Us) Should Do Once Meeting The Queen Elizabeth

Not everyone has the honor of meeting the Queen of England. However, would you know what to do if she was in your presence? We're going to list the do’s and don'ts when it comes to meeting the most important Monarch from the United Kingdom, so make sure to pay attention to the next pieces of advice.

Queen Elizabeth II is the longest reigning monarch in British history, and, being the person on the top tier of the royal family, she gets to decide almost everything. This includes anything regarding the customs and protocol they follow. Some rules have been around for centuries, but others she created strictly for herself.

9. What should you wear to the meeting?

The most basic rule to keep in mind is to dress in formal clothing and something of good taste. Neutral tones are also a great idea. As a general rule of thumb, it doesn’t matter what your specific style is - just don't overshadow The Queen’s outfit. If you like to wear bright colors or showing some skin, leave it for another occasion. Dressing with taste and class is a way of showing the Queen your respect.

8. When should you go to the meeting?

You should never leave the Queen waiting for you. Never. Treat this occassion as you would a job interview, a meeting, or your work in general - you must be on time. Remember, you should always arrive earlier than the host.

7. What should you call ‘The Queen’?

Curiously, etiquette rules state that you should never address the Queen as ‘The Queen,' despite it being the official title of her monarchy. However, there are other names you can use. For example, calling her ‘Your Majesty’ might be a better idea. Also, you can address her as ‘Ma’am’.

6. To bow or not to bow?

Visitants aren’t expected to bow to the Queen, but it would be nice to make a small gesture. It doesn’t need to be elaborate - most celebrities follow this guideline when they meet the Queen. Usually, women tend to do a traditional curtsy, while men do a small bow from the neck. This creates an appropriate image and pleases the Queen.

5. Do you shake hands with the Queen?

While meeting the Queen, you also can do a handshake after the bow/curtsy. However, there is an important rule that you shouldn’t forget: you must never offer your hand first. You only can do a handshake if the Queen extends her hand first. Keep in mind to not shake it too firmly.

4. Can you touch the Queen, perchance?

You shouldn’t touch Her Majesty under any circumstance - even if it was a mistake. The only chance you will have to touch her without being offensive is through a handshake. Other than that, there is a no-touching policy that should be followed very rigorously. Also, you must walk behind her at all times. Regardless of how slow or fast she walks, you must keep up her pace.

3. What should you talk about with the Queen?

The most essential rule to follow here is to let her do the talking. Being the guest, it's your duty to follow the host. It's also important to remember that striking a conversation with the Queen isn't part of the protocol. While talking to the Queen, you shouldn’t choose the topic or change it either. Keep these things in mind, and the conversation will be brief and smooth.

2. What should you never do?

There are a couple of things that you have to make sure you avoid. Because you'll be meeting one of the most important people in the world, and event such as this one needs to be taken seriously. Here we have a list of things that are considered impolite:
