The Astonishing Transformation of Ariana Grande That Stunned Millions

From being a simple, young Floridian girl with a dream to act and perform in theater, to becoming a chart-topping pop-sensation, Ariana Grande could’ve never imagined the dramatic transformation and whirlwind of a change she experienced this past decade. Her story is bigger than many people know and even her biggest fans could be surprised by all the things that she has lived in her few years as a singer as you'll see in this article.

Ever since she was a little girl, the singer had a drive and passion towards performing onstage. When asked about what influenced the singer, Ariana thanks her older brother, Frankie Grande, for consistently inspiring her and being her role model. In an interview with The Telegraph, the singer admitted:

"I adored and worshipped my brother, Frankie, as a little girl – everything he did was cool… He's 10 years older than me — he would kill me for saying that! But once Frankie got into acting in musical theatre and dancing, I was like, OK, I guess that's the cool thing now, so let's investigate and watch old musicals... My friends and I were huge musical-theatre geeks and we would go back and forth to New York whenever we had free weekends."

The pop star truly believes that her brother played a major role in contributing to her success and where she is today. If it wasn't for Frankie, Ariana wouldn't have been introduced to the world of acting. The support she received from her family during this time, especially her mother, allowed the singer to freely pursue her dreams as a child.

Although she experienced great success later on, Ariana’s upbringing wasn’t smooth-sailing. The singer had to simultaneously balance her work and issues within her personal life as well. Her parents' divorce, specifically, had a dramatic impact on her as a child, as she opens up about this time period in an interview with The Telegraph: "That was very hard as a young girl when my parents got divorced… Being in the middle of it was so stressful... I'm caught in the middle of all this fighting... It was traumatic. Between the ages of 8 and 11, that was the roughest for me." Acting served as the perfect temporary escape for Grande and slowly helped her cope and accept her new reality.

Following her involvement in Broadway play from a young age, and after taking part in various small TV roles, Grande landed the role of Cat on Nickelodeon's ‘Victorious.’ After being featured in a music album for the show, Ariana began making her move towards music. She began her pursuit by uploading covers on her Youtube page, in hopes of being noticed - luckily, she was. In 2013, Justin Bieber contacted the star and invited Grande to perform alongside him during his shows, slowly but surely increasing her popularity to fans worldwide.

Ariana finally released her first solo album ‘Yours Truly’ in 2013 - and it was a huge success for the debuting star. Sales were strong, and the singer’s first album peaked No. 1 on the Billboard 200. This marked the beginning of the star’s accolade collection, after winning ‘Best New Artist’ at the ‘American Music Awards’ that same year.

Critics and fans were blown away by the singers astonishing, powerful vocals - in fact, her singing style has been compared to that of legendary Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey. Shortly after, the singer released ‘My Everything’, which once again topped the charts and became her second consecutive No. 1 album. Ever since then, the star has been on the rise, releasing more hit singles and albums, and selling out shows worldwide.

Unfortunately, these past two years haven’t been much better for Grande on a personal level. In May of 2017, tragedy struck in Manchester, UK after 22 people were killed by a suicide bomber during Ariana’s performance from her ‘Dangerous Woman’ tour. Following the attack, Ariana promptly evacuated from the venue and instantly took to Twitter to address the heartbreaking situation: "broken. from the bottom of my heart, i am so so sorry. i don't have words."

After returning to Manchester to pay a special visit to victims in the hospital, Grande performed a benefit concert in honor of the victims and families who suffered and were affected by the attack. The concert was sold out in minutes, and over £10 million was raised for the ‘We Love Manchester Emergency Fund.’

Things seemed to settle down for some time - until the pop star announced her shocking split with rapper Mac Miller in May 2018. One month after their split, fans were left dumbfounded - the singer announced an unexpected and sudden engagement to ‘SNL’ comedian, Pete Davidson. It’s safe to say that Ariana received an overwhelming amount of backlash after the news broke.

One fan turned to Twitter to express his disappointment in the star: "Mac Miller totalling his G wagon and getting a DUI after Ariana Grande dumped him for another dude after he poured his heart out on a ten song album to her called the divine feminine is just the most heartbreaking thing happening in Hollywood".

Engaged for some time, the couple have broken off their relationship since then and have gone public about it multiple times. Ariana referenced the break-up in her new single 'thank u, next' whilst Pete turned the situation around to his advantage by joking about it in his stand-up routines. The break-up was pretty much finalized after the stars recently covered up their matching tattoos.

Grande was hit with another emotional rollercoaster in September 2018, when news broke that Mac Miller had passed away. The rapper’s family released a statement which read:

'Malcolm McCormick, known and adored by fans as Mac Miller, has tragically passed away at the age of 26. He was a bright light in this world for his family, friends and fans. Thank you for your prayers. Please respect our privacy. There are no further details as to the cause of his death at this time.'

For some time, Ariana kept silent - understandably, the singer needed time to cope with the tragic news. She decided to break her silence through social media, by sharing a loving photo of the rapper.

The popstar has clearly had a rocky year when taking her personal life into account. But that hasn’t slowed down the singer. When it comes to music, her numbers are skyrocketing. Ariana continues to flourish, succeed, and break records with her new albums ‘Sweetener’, and ‘thank u, next’ which include multiple smash hits - such as 'No Tears Left To Cry', 'Breathin'', 'thank u, next' and '7 Rings'.

So far, 2019 is looking like a promising year for the singer - Ariana’s hard work was paid off, as ‘Sweetener’ takes home a Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album. With two albums dropping less than a year apart from each other, it doesn’t seem like Grande is planning on slowing down any time soon. Are you waiting with anticipation for the singer’s next move?
