'Game of Thrones': The Real-Life Couples of Winterfell
"Game of Thrones" has been winning us over with each season release for the past 8 years. With its intriguing fantasy plot, epic battles, relationship turmoil, and neverending drama that leave us wanting more every time. With the show (unfortunately) coming to a wrap with its final season, we decided to take a look at the real-life couples of some of the most famous characters from the show.
12. KIT HARINGTON (JON SNOW) AND ROSE LESLIE (YGRITTE)
On the big screen, fans can recall that these two had an extremely passionate relationship that was filled with rampant emotions of love and hate. Rumors started circling in 2012 that the actors had an off-screen romance as well - but the fact was never confirmed until 2016. Kit Harington and Rose Leslie made their first official appearance as a couple in spring 2016.
Most fans were ecstatic to see that their onscreen chemistry was transferred to real life! When questioned about their relationship, Kit admitted that the magic began whilst they were filming in Iceland. Harington and Leslie tied the knot this past summer in June 2018, with a beautiful wedding that included their close friends and Game of Thrones co-stars.
11. PETER DINKLAGE (TYRION LANNISTER) AND HIS WIFE ERICA SCHMIDT
Tyrion is known and loved for his hilarious, sarcastic sense of humor and intelligent (but kind) heart; he is definitely one of the all-time favorites of most "Game of Thrones" watchers. But, unlike his lonely character in the show, the 49-year-old is very happily married in real life.
Dinklage is taken by 43-year-old writer-director, Erica Schmidt, and the couple was blessed with two beautiful children. Their first daughter is 6, and their second child was welcomed into the world in 2017. Although they’re very private about their personal life, according to Peter’s Instagram the family is truly happy.
10. JASON MOMOA (KHAL DROGO) AND HIS WIFE LISA BONET
Jason Momoa, 39, who portrayed the attractive and enticing Khal Drogo, stole the hearts of many viewers. But, for those who were interested, Momoa has already found his Khaleesi. The Hawaiian actor got married recently to actress Lisa Bonet, 51, who was known as his longtime love.
Apparently, Jason saw Bonet onscreen when he was only 8 years old, and told his mom that he would stalk her “for the rest of his life” and end up winning her over. And that’s exactly what happened! However, he kept this secret from Lisa for a while - in fact, he waited until the two already had both of their babies.
9. GWENDOLINE CHRISTIE (BRIENNE OF TARTH) AND HER BOYFRIEND GILES DEACON
Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie) is known for the tough and brute image that she portrays within the show. However, off-screen, she’s the total opposite of her "Game of Thrones" character. Christie is a philanthropist, an outspoken feminist, and is dating a high-end fashion designer, Giles Deacon.
Thanks to Deacon, the actress also possesses an amazing sense of style. In fact, Giles actually credits his girlfriend for his first couture collection, calling her his muse. Obviously, the two are a very happy (and also extremely cute) couple.
8. NIKOLAJ COSTER-WALDAU (JAIME LANNISTER) AND HIS WIFE NUKAAKA COSTER-WALDAU
Sir Jaime Lannister was a huge bachelor in "Game of Thrones" - marriage was definitely not something that was within the horizon, judging by his character. In real life, though, Nikolaj couldn’t be any more different than Jaime. The 48-year-old Danish actor is married to 48-year-old Miss Greenland Nukaaka Coster-Waldau.
The pair have 2 gorgeous teenage daughters and have decided to shy away from the public and keep their private affairs on the down-low, just near Copenhagen. According to an article by Marie Claire, Nukaaka hasn’t even watched a single episode of "Game of Thrones"!
7. AIDAN GILLEN (PETYR BAELISH) AND HIS GIRLFRIEND CAMILLE O’SULLIVAN
Aidan Gillen, 50, portrays the sneaky, smart, and manipulative character known as Petyr “Littlefinger.” The actor was married for 13 years and had 2 children with his first wife - which he credits for his success, and motivating him back in 2009.
Sadly, the couple divorced, and Gillen is currently dating Camille O’Sullivan, an Irish singer. Although they don’t hide from the public and make plenty of appearances together, little is known about their privates lives - and that’s exactly how they want to keep it.
6. CARICE VAN HOUTEN (MELISANDRE) AND HER BOYFRIEND GUY PEARCE
Often referred to as the Red Woman, Lady Melisandre is considered to be one of the most powerful and mysterious characters on the show. Known as a seductress, the actress is far more humble and private in real life.
The Red Woman is portrayed by the famous Dutch actress and singer Carice Van Houten. Carice is currently dating Australian actor and musician Guy Pearce, and the two have a 6-month-old baby. They both prefer to live a more simple life and decided to move to Europe to escape from the Hollywood scene.
5. KRISTOFER HIVJU (TORMUND GIANTSBANE) AND WIFE GRY MOLVAER HIVJU
The wild, untamed, red-bearded savage, Tormund Giantsbane, is portrayed by Kristofer Hivju, a 40-year-old Norwegian actor. He is also a producer, a writer, as well as a loving husband and adorable father of 2.
Hivju has been married to his girlfriend, Gry Molvaer, since 2015; and now, he makes sure his family participates in all parts of his life - he even brings them onto the sets! This is an extremely affectionate and happy family - if you look at their social media accounts, Kristofer is very open about his adoration for his wife and kids.
4. JACOB ANDERSON (GREY WORM) AND GIRLFRIEND, AISLING LOFTUS
Known as Grey Worm, Jacob Anderson portrays an extremely serious and proper persona within the show. In reality, he’s a lot happier - most of the time you can catch him wearing a smile and, believe it or not, singing. Anderson is not only an actor but a singer-songwriter, rapper and record producer as well.
He’s dating an English actress, Aisling Loftus. Jacob also isn’t shy in expressing his love for his partner - he says that she’s the most caring person he’s ever met, and they never run out of things to talk about. The pair has been going strong for over 5 years, and are truly happy together too.
3. IAIN GLEN (JORAH MORMONT) AND GIRLFRIEND, CHARLOTTE EMMERSON
He was the biggest, most devoted supporter and follower of the Mother of Dragons. Jorah Mormont, played by Scottish actor Iain Glen, is just as devoted in his real life to British actress Charlotte Emmerson and their 2 daughters. The pair have shared their lives with each other for over 11 years!
In addition to being a great actor, Iain is also an extremely talented musician and performer. He plays the piano, guitar, and has participated in a number of musicals which included Nicole Kidman and Martin Guerre. It looks like Glen has lots going for him.
2. SOPHIE TURNER (SANSA STARK) AND FIANCE, JOE JONAS

Portraying Sansa Stark, the 23-year-old English actress Sophie Turner, made her debut in "Game of Thrones." In fact, she was only 15 years old when the show broadcasted. A couple of years after achieving her fame, Turner started dating famous singer Joe Jonas.
In under a year, Jonas proposed and the actress said “Yes!” In fact, before their engagement, the couple had already taken a serious step towards building their future together by adopting a husky puppy. Now, they’re officially a family of 3!
1. MAISIE WILLIAMS (ARYA STARK) AND BOYFRIEND, OLLIE JACKSON
Maisie Williams made her acting debut in "Game of Thrones" as well, just like fellow co-star Sophie Turner. Maisie has been dating Ollie Jackson for about 2 years, and he’s actually not a celebrity or public figure - the two met at school. They went public in February 2017, and aren’t shy about showing the world how happy they are.
After going through this list, it's crazy to see how different the "Game of Thrones" actors are in their real-life relationships, compared to their onscreen personalities.
