Celebrities who embraced breastfeeding their children beyond 1 year

There is usually a lot of controversies when it comes to women, their bodies, and the decisions they make about career, children, family and so on. When it comes to breastfeeding and how long a woman should do it for, there are varied opinions. Celebrities are not left out of this as some have been seen to be challenged for the choices they make when it comes to their children. Should they be treated any differently just because they are famous?

There is a lot of information out there as to the reasons why breastfeeding is the best for a child, the advantages to both the mother and the child. Everyone seems to agree that breastfeeding is excellent, what causes controversy is how long a child should be breastfed for. Some are of the opinion that the child should set the pace, while others think it is up to the mother to stop when 'appropriate'. What is the definition of appropriate in this context? The one year mark? Two years? Or maybe even more?

There are a few celebrities who were open and very honest about their breastfeeding journeys and chose to nurse past the one year mark. Sharing about their journey and their decision in public has to some extent helped to normalize extended breastfeeding. These mothers have refused to be pressured by society into not doing what is best for their children. Let's take a look at some of them.

Nikki Reed

Nikki Reed recently revealed that she plans on continuing to breastfeed her 19-month-old daughter, Bodhi. In a very moving post she shared on Instagram, she took a moment to reflect on this journey and how it will be over before she knows it. She shared about the hard work it takes to multi-task work and baby, but how she is taking the time to enjoy the journey.

Kourtney Kardashian

The first of the Kardashian sisters has never been shy about sharing her motherhood journey with her fans. "I seriously could cry just thinking about it being over. I love what a beautiful experience I had with my son and just wanted to share it,”

Selma Blair

Babies with health issues tend to need more breastfeeding time than others. Such was the case with Selma Blair.
