Captain Marvel Is About To Change The Future Of The MCU By Taking Over The Leading Role

2019 is a big year for the multi-billion-dollar Marvel Cinematic Universe. Apart from the lineup of fantastic movies yet to be released, 'Captain Marvel,' which was released recently, is doing incredibly well at the box office. Brie Larson played the hero: a human-alien hybrid who harnesses massive amounts of energy that give her the power of flight, super-strength, exceptional endurance, and an elevated awareness of danger, amongst other abilities.

With Captain Marvel's incredible superpowers and her major role in defeating Thanos in the highly anticipated 'Avengers: Endgame,' we believe she might be the next leader of the Avengers team and the MCU.

The superhero blockbuster, 'Captain Marvel,' brought in more than $690 million at the box office in its second weekend of release. Marvel's first movie to focus on a female superhero has passed $265 million in ticket sales domestically and grossed $494 million overseas. In just two weeks, the movie has garnered the total sums of many superhero films, including 'Ant-Man and the Wasp' - $623 million, 'Iron Man 2' - $624 million, 'Thor: Dark World' - $645 million, and 'Captain America: Winter Soldier' - $714 million.

As reported by Screenrant, some MCU actors will be leaving the franchise after 'Avengers 4.'

“After Avengers least some of the original characters who sit at the center of the billion-dollar Avengers team will be hanging up their capes and shields. That’s partially because the Marvel contracts with the actors who play them—Evans Captain America, Ruffalo -Hulk, Downey -Iron Man, Johansson -Black Widow, Hemsworth (Thor), and Renner -Hawkeye are coming to an end.”

Even though there is no actual leader of the Avengers team, Captain America and Ironman have been known to step in when critical decisions have to be made. However, with the high possibility that both will be leaving the franchise after 'Avengers: Endgame,' Captain Marvel might be the best superhero to fill the spot.

Chris Evans, who played the role of Captain America in Avengers franchise and MCU movies, had always had the plan to step down after the 4th Avengers movie. In a 2014 Buzzfeed interview on the set of 'Avengers: Age of Ultron,' he said:

"So halfway through! I mean, I'm going to miss these when they're done. I really will. This has been a lot of fun, and they're only getting more fun. Especially because there's a trust in Marvel that you're going to make something good. It would really be lousy to be stuck in a contract knowing that you're making s***. And I just don't feel that way. It's really a blessing that this kind of fell in my lap. Sometimes you don't really feel deserving of it. But I'll take it."

In 2018, after he finished his reshoots for the fourth Avengers film, he reaffirmed his choice to stick to the decision he made a few years ago.

"Playing this role over the last eight years has been an honor," he told his fans. "To everyone in front of the camera, behind the camera, and in the audience, thank you for the memories! Eternally grateful, ” he wrote on his social media page.

Marvel Studios chief, Kevin Feige, discussed the future of MCU and confirmed that Carol Danvers would take over as the leader of the MCU and the Avenger team.

“When we found out that Brie Larson might be interested in joining our world, we had a number of meetings. She was a huge fan of the character in the comics. One of the highlights of my career at Marvel was introducing her at Comic-Con and having her come out on stage and stand there with literally almost everybody else from our movies. There she was at the forefront, and it was a great foreshadowing – not just for how audiences are going to embrace Brie as this character, but also for how Captain Marvel is about to take the lead and be at the forefront of the entire Cinematic Universe.”

Kevin Feige also shared the reason why Carol Danvers is the best fit for the new position as the leader of the MCU in 'Captain Marvel: The Official Movie Special.'

“The great thing about Captain Marvel is she is a human. She’s a real person, Carol Danvers, who gets these incredible powers and who has these amazing adventures in outer space. But as with all of the best Marvel characters, she needs to be very human. So this is not just about somebody who is incredibly powerful and can fly around and shoot photon blasts out of her hands; it’s somebody who’s very human, who’s very vulnerable, and who has multiple dimensions."

Carol Danvers possesses remarkable strength, endurance, flight, precognitive skills, stamina, and can release explosive blasts of radiant energy, which she fires from her fingertips. She also has the ability to absorb other forms of energy, such as electricity, to further increase her strength and energy projection - up to the force of an exploding nuclear weapon. With these powers and abilities, we think Danvers will be the perfect fit for the new face of MCU, following the departure of Steve Rogers (Captain America) and Tony Stark (Ironman).

It's true that the MCU is going through a transitional phase, and while we have mixed feelings about the possibilities of not seeing some of our favorite characters in the franchise anymore, we are looking forward to seeing more of Captain Marvel in MCU movies in the future.

What do you think about Captain Marvel being the leader of the Avengers team and MCU? We would love to know your thoughts on this. Also, don't forget to share this article with your friends to find out their opinion too.
