Thor And Captain Marvel: What's Going On Between Them

‘Avengers: Infinity War’ was packed with action sequences, but there were several heartfelt scenes that fans loved, especially those characters meeting each other for the first time. People have been wondering if Carol Danvers is going to get along with the Avengers for ‘Avengers: Endgame’, and the full-length trailer might have revealed a little something about her relationship with Thor.

IT IS ALL IN THE DETAILS

The Marvel Cinematic Universe gets bigger every year. Marvel introduces new superheroes, villains, and more plotlines that merge all of them together. In order to do this, however, they have to pay attention to the details because fans scrutinize every single moment of the franchise. As a result, there are no coincidences in the MCU movies.

Two characters working together in one movie could have serious repercussions in another. ‘Captain Marvel’ was just released in theaters, and the mid-credits scene showed that she returned to Earth thanks to Fury’s pager. A new trailer for ‘Avengers: Endgame’ dropped this past week, and the MCU finally united the Avengers with the greatest superhero in the Marvel universe.

Carol Danvers appeared in the final shot of the trailer with Thor, and it might have seemed a bit strange at first glance. However, there was a lot of suggestion in their short interaction where Thor tried to intimidate her with Stormbreaker. He summoned it just like he did with Mjolnir in ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ to scare Loki into stopping his Odin disguise.

However, a woman such as Captain Marvel is not going to back down from a stare down or be scared by an ax. Her reaction, or rather, lack thereof, made Thor exclaimed, “I like this one.” It makes sense because Asgardians are known for respecting strength. On the other hand, Thor does not seem like the kind of guy that would purposely try to frighten a girl.

It seems more likely that the God of Thunder was trying to test her, especially due to whatever Carol said to the Avengers between her arrival and that moment. After all, a lot of the greatest superheroes in the world tried to stop Thanos and failed. The Avengers need to know that any newcomers have the guts to face the coming fight.

A DREAM TEAM

Now that Danvers has passed Thor’s test, they could team up as they are both the mightiest members of the Avengers. During ‘Avengers: Infinity War’, Thor aligned up with Rocket Raccoon and Groot to go to Nidavellir for a new weapon that would be similar to Mjolnir, which Hela destroyed in ‘Thor: Ragnarok’. The rocket was exactly what Thor needed at the time.

Joe Russo said that their partnership “made sense” because the God of Thunder had just lost everything. However, he is not the kind of character to just break down and cry. Rocket is perhaps the least emotional character Thor could have ended up with, but it was perfect. He understood that there are times where he just needed to ask some questions and listen. “Time to be the captain,” Rocket said.

THEIR FATHERS

The new trailer also showed some key details of the original Avengers and their past; Captain America before he got his serum; Tony before he became Iron Man, and Thor when he was an arrogant god on Asgard. They also showed Odin, who is not the best father figure in the MCU. Thanos might be the worst for what he did to Gamora, but Odin is no price either.

He favored Thor, and Loki grew resentful. Once he died, Thor and Loki were finally able to patch their problems until the Mad Titan killed the God of Mischief. In regards to Carol, it is clear that she had a complex relationship with her father, although they showed him for just a couple of seconds. What fans learned in ‘Captain Marvel’ is that he did not want his daughter doing the same things as the boys.

THEY HAVE A LOT OF RESPONSIBILITY ON THEIR SHOULDERS

“With great power comes great responsibility.” Every fan of the Marvel Universe knows this quote by heart, and while there is some discussion about its origins, most people learned it first from ‘Amazing Fantasy #15’. This is exactly how Thor and Carol feel. They were both given an amazing amount of powers, and they have to use it for the good of everyone.

Thor feels responsible for the remaining population of Asgard. Many of them died during ‘Thor: Ragnarok’, but some escaped in the spaceship at the end. However, they got ambushed by Thanos and the Black Order, and there were a lot of casualties. It was later revealed that some of the people escaped thanks to Valkyrie and Korg.

The God of Thunder also considered himself a hero of planet Earth, but the whole universe was affected by Thanos’ snap. He must feel like he is the only one that can reverse it, but he also needs to learn to rely on others. Captain Marvel could be perfect for him in that sense. Carol felt immense guilt that the Krees manipulated them into destroying more Skrulls.

She vowed to end the war after unleashing all her real powers. The Kree-Skrull confrontation was not exactly her problem, but she promised to take it upon herself. Furthermore, since Danvers feels this way, it’s almost safe to say that she likes doing things on her own as well. She might not get along with all the Avengers, but Thor could be the exception.

They understand each other and ways the others don’t, especially because they have traveled through space. Asgard was supposed to be the protectors of the Nine Realms at some point. Carol wanted to defend a whole alien race, and although her experiences are still unknown, she probably took on more duties in the 20+ years she was away from home.

On another note, leaked concept art from ‘Endgame’ revealed an ax which is similar to the one Captain Marvel wielded in the ‘Fear Itself’ arc. If true, she might be handling a weapon similar to Stormbreaker. “Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.” Captain Marvel is definitely worthy.

There is one last thing that some fans noticed about their interaction, although it could be wishful thinking. They looked at each other meaningfully, which might be suggesting a romantic relationship. After all, poor Thor has been alone for some time now. Jane “broke up” with him before ‘Thor: Ragnarok’.

Marvel has not been the best at showing romance. Tony and Pepper could be the only exception, but there are a bunch of questions regarding how they got back together in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ if they were on the outs during ‘Captain America: Civil War’. ‘Captain Marvel’ did not even hint at anything kind of love besides friendship.

Let us know what you think about a Thor-Captain Marvel team up for ‘Avengers: Endgame’. If you liked this article, share it with your friends who want to see them romantically together. See you next time!
