The moment we’ve all been waiting for! After a hiatus that seemed to last forever, it looks like Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, is finally back on Instagram! Well, kind of. Before becoming a member of the royal family, Markle was an avid user of social media. From her own personal Instagram account that she updated frequently, to her blog, ‘The Tig’, the Duchess got rid of everything a little over a year ago.
According to a “palace source”, the reason behind the deactivation was because she didn’t use them for a while, so “she has taken the decision to close them.” For the longest time, the only place where we could get updates on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex was through the official palace social handles. They’ve always posted on behalf of the rest of the members, too: Meghan, Harry, Kate, and William.
But royal fans were left longing for more and hoping that after Harry and Meghan’s split from William and Kate, the pair would get their own account. And fans have finally received their wish! Let's take a look at what we've gathered from the account so far, as well as some developing details about Baby Sussex.
SAY HELLO TO THE NEW @SUSSEXROYAL!
Yesterday, the official Kensington Palace account welcomed the handle @SussexRoyal.
“Welcome to our official Instagram; we look forward to sharing the work that drives us, the causes we support, important announcements, and the opportunity to shine a light on key issues," said a message with the post. "We thank you for your support, and welcome you to @sussexroyal.”- Harry & Meghan."
The account only has one post so far, however, it’s (disappointingly) super formal. Although, we did get a glimpse of some images we haven’t seen before - such as an unseen photo of the pair during their Fiji royal tour from last year.
The account has already gained more than 250,000 followers. Notably, the follower list includes A-list celebrities such as Blake Lively, Gwyneth Paltrow, and David Beckham. Long-time friend Priyanka Chopra and Jessica Mulroney, have already commented on the post too. It comes as no surprise that the news and the post have been welcomed with a huge wave of comments, full of adoration, from the royal fans.
One user commented:
“Awesome couple alert!! Welcome to the Insta family.”
“Not to be dramatic but this just made my life.”
Cathryn Rose said:
“Thank you for sharing some of your life with us. I think you are both (And the Royal Family) wonderful."
THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT MOVE FOR THE COUPLE
This might seem insignificant at first, but it marks a big step for Harry and Meghan as a couple. Earlier on, the couple made an official announcement that they will be separating from the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. The Queen approved the move and agreed to make a new household for Harry and Meghan, which will be based at Buckingham Palace.
"This long-planned move will ensure that permanent support arrangements for The Duke and Duchess’s work are in place as they start their family and move to their official residence at Frogmore Cottage," said the announcement.
As soon as Meghan joined the family, Harry and her, plus William and Kate, have always appeared as a unit. We’d see the ‘Fab Four’ pictured together fairly often on the @KensingtonRoyal Instagram. So considering all factors, such as moving to a different estate and creating a separate page, the fresh Instagram account further shows that the couple is starting fresh and creating their own, new image as a family. And with Meghan expected to give birth to their first child in the coming weeks, the timing is just right.
Let's pause for a second, though. With all the talk that's been going on about Baby Sussex's gender, some information has recently surfaced that has convinced many fans that we might be blessed with not only one Baby Sussex, but possibly two! Meghan possesses multiple factors that point to the possibility of the Duchess delivering twins. Here's what we know so far.
SCIENCE SAID IT FIRST: WOMEN +35 ARE MORE LIKELY TO GIVE BIRTH TO TWINS
This is due to the increase in a particular hormone, called FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone). Because of the hormonal shift experienced during this age, older women end up preparing more than one egg per menstrual cycle.
HER MIXED ETHNICITY PLAYS A PART
According to John Hopkins Medicine, multiples make up a tiny amount of the population, with only 3 in 100 births. However, this rate is apparently rising. Pew Research released a study that stated Caucasians and African Americans are the two ethnic groups that have the highest chance of multiple births.
Caucasians come in with 3.8%, whilst African Americans hold 4.1%. With Meghan's mixed African American-Caucasian ethnicity, the likeliness is twice as high. In contrast, a person with Asian ethnicity only holds 3.2% and Hispanics are even lower with 2.5%.
HER HEIGHT HAS AN IMPACT TOO
A research study was carried out by Dr. Gary Steinman, an obstetrician at Long Island Jewish Medical Center, which focused on the correlation between a women's height and multiple births. Steinman compared the heights of 125 women who had twin births, and 24 who has triplets, to the heights of average U.S. women. As a result, the study demonstrated that women who are an inch or two taller than the average gave birth to two or more children.
With Meghan's 5'7" inch height, the Duchess falls right into the category, since the average women's heigh in her birthplace is 5'3"-5'4". The explanation behind this phenomenon has to do with hormones, once again. Taller women have more of an insulin-like growth factor (IGF) which has been linked to a high rate of twin births. The IGF protein is released by the liver, in response to growth hormones.
It's been a great start to the week for Royal fans. With the creation of Harry and Meghan's Instagram account, the Internet is buzzing with questions and anticipation! What will they be posting to the page? Are all of the posts going to be formal and created for them?
Fans are hoping that the Instagram account will be slightly more personalized and less formal than the other Royal pages. And, of course, we're keeping our fingers crossed that we'll be seeing pictures of Baby Sussex on the account as soon as it's here! Have you followed the Sussex account yet? And what do you think about Meghan's chances of having twins? Let us know in the comments below!
