"Game Of Thrones" Winterfell Crypts: The Theory That May Be Too Painful To Take For The Fans

The second episode of Season Eight just aired, and it was a doozy, despite the fact that nobody died. However, ‘Game of Thrones’ has taught all their fans that they have to read between the lines even in the most innocent-looking scenes. There’s a detail that popped up a lot this Sunday, and people think it might mean the doom of those at Winterfell. Let’s find out more!

Sunday’s episode gave some very cute, and it was like the characters were almost saying goodbye to each other. The audience has to prepared themselves because battling the army of the dead will not be easy, and ‘Game of Throne’ has never been afraid to kill major players in their story. The hour-long installment was the calm before the storm.

However, some interesting things did happen, and one of the best scenes was Brienne of Tarth finally becoming a knight thanks to Jaime Lannister. She had managed to convince Sansa that he was a man of honor, and Bran would not reveal what he did to him in Season One. As Jon Snow said, they truly need every man they can get.

While all fans are getting ready for one of the biggest heartbreaks of their lives, they also noticed someone else. Through seven seasons of this epic saga, we have all learned to see more into every comment, especially, every war strategy. One detail really managed to stand out because it was talked about so much on Sunday night.

The women and children, as well as those unable to fight, will stay in the Winterfell crypts, and Jon said they would be “safe” there. But, everyone knows that there is no such thing as safe, and promising such words was almost like the kiss of death. In another scene with Ser Davos and Gilly, a young girl asked them where she would be as her parents had been soldiers, and she wanted to fight.

This part was a bit sad as well because the little girl looked a lot like Shireen, Stannis Baratheon’s daughter, who Ser Davos loved deeply. Shireen was burned at the stake because the red priestess, Melisandre, said that it would help Stannis in the war, and the Lord of Light has always demanded sacrifices.

Unfortunately, this action was the end of Stannis’ strength as his men abandoned him, his wife killed herself, and the red woman eventually escaped to the Wall as well. Brienne of Tarth ended up killing him just as she had promised to do since the death of Renly Baratheon. Back to the scene, Gilly told the little girl,

“When the time comes, you’ll be down in the crypts. The safest place.”

In another situation, Sam was worried about Gilly and little Sam, and he said, “They’ll safe down in the crypts.” Too many mentions have raised a bunch of red flags. Fans of the show have serious trust issues when it comes to the safety of their favorite characters. They immediately took to Twitter with comments and memes about the whole scene.

Words that are repeated too many times could be an indication for impending doom. Let's face it, an army of zombies will not be easy to defeat, and the dead are everywhere.

There are no guarantees on this show. Anything can happen, especially of their main motto is "All Men Must Die".

Jon once said that the Night King was a "general you can't negotiate with" and his army "left no corpses behind". Better not send everyone to where you keep the bodies.

We might be getting the Ned Stark resurrection fans have been hoping for since Season One. But, it won't be fun.

The crypt might be secure from other kinds of armies, but if no one can get in, it means that it is also hard to get out.

As if that wasn’t proof enough already that things might go south for the people taking refuge down at the tombs, the preview for Episode Three might have sealed the deal. At some point, Daenerys told Jon, “The dead are already here.” With only four episodes left in this final season, it is understandable that a lot of people will die.

‘Game of Thrones’ has talked about the secret passageways at the castle of Winterfell, which were used by old monarchs when they escaped. They could be used by the Night King and the wights if he someone knows about them. However, there is another theory that came after hearing Daenerys’ words to Jon.

The crypt already has dead bodies, and the Night King could be able to bring them back to life. Some of the wights look in terrible stages of decomposition; so, there is no window of time when the Walker can resurrect these zombies. It would be only too grimly poetic if our heroes ended up fighting the corpses of their dead loved ones.

It definitely brings to mind the phrases “What is dead, may never die” and “Valar Morghulis”. Of course, it would be common sense for the people down there to have some weapons, and Tyrion will be there too. They might not be completely doomed at that point. Winterfell is currently best-equipped with the proper weapons to fight these demons.

If this theory proves correct, then it might explain the scenes they shown in several previous of the season already where Arya runs, raged and scared, through the corridors of the castle. Knowing who Arya has become, that footage was definitely ominous as it seemed like she had returned to that frightened girl from the past.

Episode Three will probably be the most intense in the show’s history, and it will air the same weekend of ‘Avengers: Endgame’. We are not ready! If you liked this article, share it with your friends who cannot wait for these few days to pass. See you next time!
