Behind-the-Scenes 'GoT' Memories Revealed By The Show's Major Actors
With the end of ‘Game of Thrones’ nearing, we’re at a loss for words. We still can’t believe the moment is finally going to happen, so let’s just stay in a state of denial for a while, shall we? Instead, we’re going to look back at some of the actors’ favorite moments during filming. Let’s start!
13. Kit Harington (Jon Snow)
Jon Snow’s most memorable day on set took place in Iceland. It was the beauty of the area that captured his attention once and for all. In addition, this is where they filmed a scene with Rose Leslie when his character couldn’t kill Ygritte. Apparently, he felt most comfortable with her. And, as we now already know, ended up becoming his wife!
We weren’t the only ones who were shocked with Kit’s death - the actor was just as surprised, too. However, he knew that everything was going to be okay since he didn’t get a call from producers confirming the death. The viewers? Not so lucky. We’re still traumatized from that moment, wondering whether our favorite Jon Snow would be alive.
12. Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen)
On her first day on set, Emilia had a rough start as she ended up falling off a horse. Trying to stay in her zone, she tried to act while falling. Looking back at the moment now, she laughs it off and finds it hilarious, but she wasn’t so humored in the moment. She had asked them to stop filming, as she started crying.
For Clarke, her favorite moment was when her character was getting the Unsullied. This is when she was truly able to play the bad girl, and to be honest, we loved seeing her in that light just as much.
11. Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister)
Lena’s favorite moment was the scene where Cersei and Robert Baratheon spoke about their marriage. The actress found it very touching and believes it allowed the characters to show a different side of themselves.
10. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister)
Nikolaj’s favorite scene was when Jaime and Brienne were sitting in the bathtub. We know where your mind is wandering - and no, it wasn’t because they were both sitting there naked. In fact, he enjoyed it so much because it showed a new side of his character’s personality.
Another favorite for the actor was the scene with the loot train attack. He found it to be lots of fun. Being on a horse all day and taking in the beauty of the location was very memorable for the star. He felt lucky to be able to participate in such a grandiose shooting.
9. Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister)
It might come as a surprise, but Peter Dinklage was never interested in starring in a fantasy series. The actor prefers to portray real life. However, his opinion has changed. Despite the dragons living alongside them, Dinklage has come to the belief that this show is one of the most realistic because of the heroes and their relationships with one another.
8. Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark)
For Sophie, her favorite day on set was the reunion of Sansa and Arya. The two had tons of fun filming that scene together, and we're constantly laughing. Honestly, we were just as excited when it finally happened.
The most shocking moment for the actress, however, was the death of Ned Stark. It was unexpected for all of us and we still can’t wrap our heads around the fact that it happened so suddenly. This was when Sophie came to the realization that all the characters were in jeopardy, and that even everyone’s favorite character could be taken away in an instant.
7. Maisie Williams (Arya Stark)
Maisie absolutely loved the scene where she had to throw a pie at Sophie’s face. Apparently, the actress was given specific instructions to aim right at Sophie’s cheek. It still makes the actress laugh to this day!
Everyone knows by now that Maisie and Sophie are the best friends offset. Naturally, this explains why her most fun day on set was the reunion with her serial sister. The two BFFs had tonnes of fun that day, and even rode around on Bran’s wheelchair!
6. Isaac Hempstead Wright (Bran Stark)
There was one scene that left all of us shook - and it ended up being the coolest experience for Isaac too. The actor will never forget the moment when he stood next to the Night King and the army of the dead. Lots of zombie makeup was involved, and a fan was spraying snow the whole time too.
The most shocking moment for the actor was with Hodor. It was just as emotional for him as it was for us. Apparently, he couldn’t believe that it was actually happening (we couldn’t either). The scene was full of emotions and revealed the meaning of Hodor’s stay with Bran.
5. Gwendoline Christie (Brienne of Tarth)
Before meeting Nikolaj for the first time, Gwendoline was extremely nervous. She made the first step by entering his truck to meet him, where the actor was sitting in a chair. He looked her up and down, and dryly asked “Yes?” When we look at their relationship now, it’s clear that the two have strengthened their bond. The actors are always laughing together and teasing one another.
4. Iain Glen (Jorah Mormont)
The gladiator contest was Iain’s favorite moment. The actor’s little daughter was present during the shooting and announced the beginning and end of the filming. Glen was also super appreciative of the set decoration, how real it looked, and all the detail put into it.
3. Rory McCann (Sandor “The Hound” Clegane)
McCann’s favorite day was the shooting of the fight between the Hound and Brienne. The actors had put a lot of time, work, and effort in preparing for the scene - and we’re glad to say that it was completely worth it. It was definitely an impressive moment in the series.
What shocked Rory the most, however, was the Red Wedding (same?!). The actor had only read his part in the episode and had no idea what was to come. When he saw the moment that left everyone devastated, he started crying.
2. John Bradley (Samwell Tarly)
John’s favorite shooting day was when the Fist of the First Men scene was filmed. It was shot in Iceland, in an absolutely stunning location. For the actor, it was both the landscape and the people around him that made the moment so special.
For Bradley, he had to dive right into character from the start. On his very first day, he had to shoot a fight scene - or rather, his poor fighting skills. What makes this even more impressive, is that it was only his fourth hour in front of the camera in his entire life! The first 3 were done in drama school.
1. Liam Cunningham (Davos Seaworth)
The shadow birth scene was the strangest experience that Liam had to go through. In fact, the entire thing was filmed in a cold cave. Even though it was super eerie, Liam liked what he saw on the monitor afterward. To him, it resembled a painting. The battle of the Blackwater was one of his favorites, too, due to the visual aspect. And we can’t help but agree with him - the scene was intense and memorable.
Taking this walk down memory lane is a bittersweet experience. ‘Game of Thrones’ has given us so much to remember, so the fact that its soon coming to an end is heartbreaking. And, for the actors, it's even more painful. After a while, they became more than just a crew, but true friends as well. We can only imagine how sad their last day on set is going to be. What was your favorite ‘Game of Thrones’ moment? And how do you think the show is going to end? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
