Stan Lee's Final Legendary Cameo in Marvel's 'Avengers: Endgame' Breakdown
In a few days, Marvel fans will get to know what happens to some of their cherished characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in ‘Avengers: Endgame.’ Ten years earlier and twenty-two movies later, the remainder of the Avengers will try to stop Thanos on his mission and get back half of the population. The big and bulky oppressor annihilated half of the population with a snap of his fingers in ‘Avengers: Infinity War.’ Although he won the battle, the war is not over yet. Sadly, we will have to bid some of the original cast members a farewell to end this superhero story. Who we'll be saying 'bye' to, however, isn't sure yet. Unhappily, one constant factor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe we had to part ways with is Stan Lee.
Stan Lee was the creator of some of the best comics and superheroes ever. He will forever stay in our minds and memories, for he has made his mark. He has endeared himself to us all as we love not only his creativity but him in general. Unfortunately, he died on November 12, 2018, at the old age of 95. With the release of ‘Avengers: Endgame’ forthcoming, many fans of the MCU are wondering, will Stan Lee be in ‘Avengers: Endgame?’
WHY WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING STAN LEE'S FACE
All Marvel movies feature Stan Lee in a small cameo, which usually ends with him cracking a wise joke. Well, according to director Joe Russo, Stan had already filmed his cameo for the ‘Endgame’ before he passed away. So, that means he will be in the forthcoming movie. Yay! He will not only appear post mortem in the movie. Joe Russo told Mashable, that it was Stan’s last commitment to film.
Be that as it may, the outlet noted that the director had previously spoken about Stan Lee's likely appearance in the next installment of ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home,’ as the cameo also may have been available before he passed on. So, fans can expect a confirmed last appearance. Stephen McFeely informed the Los Angeles Times at the premiere event that:
"This is a unique cameo, and he was so in it. He went for it. It was fantastic. You know, you don't give Stan Lee a page of dialogue. You give him one full thing where he can shine.”
"It was one of the most beautiful cinematic experiences I've had in the Marvel Universe. He is Marvel. Without him, I'm not standing here.”
Obviously, Stan Lee wasn't just a colleague or a creator. They had emotional attachments to him. He was valued, loved and respected, and his absence will be significantly felt. Now that he's gone to the great beyond, the fans are added to that list.
DID STAN LEE SEE ‘AVENGERS: ENDGAME’ BEFORE HE DIED?
We are not sure if Stan Lee watched this incredibly anticipated movie before he died or not. And, it doesn't look like it. But as an additional memorial to the creator, the Marvel Studios President, Kevin Feige disclosed to Entertainment Weekly that behind the scenes footage of all of Stan Lee's cameos will be gathered and released to the general public. We can't wait! The President of the Marvel Studios also mentioned that,
" We have never done this before, a behind-the-scenes of every cameo. All the B-roll that was shot and his stand-ups there. His passing away was very emotional for all of us, but it suddenly all came back to me just when I watched it.”
When the behind the scenes footage would be released is not confirmed yet, but we sure anticipate seeing our favorite creator, Stan Lee serving us some sense of humor once more.
STAN LEE'S CAMEO IN ‘AVENGERS: ENDGAME’
People have been wondering if Stan has his customary cameo in the ‘Avengers: Endgame.’ Well, he does. It is a simple or comical moment close to the middle of the film. The scene starts from a car license plate, then reveals the driver of the vehicle as Lee's character, with a woman in the passenger seat.
As they were passing by a military base, Lee's character says in a loud voice, "Make love not war" out the window. Aptly, the car has a bumper sticker reading, "Buff said.” The phrase is the one Stan Lee used from time to time in his Stan Lee's Soapbox editorials in Marvel comic books. That phrase was also mentioned in his cameo in ‘Spiderman 3.’
Let's not forget that this will be the last cameo in which we will see Stan Lee in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So, it is appropriate, given that this movie is coming to an end after the first ten years of storytelling in the MCU. In a conversation with Radio Times, Co-director Joe Russo said of Stan Lee's role in Endgame,
"Obviously it was exceedingly sad that this cameo was his final appearance but I for think what was shot was very fitting.”
It is sad that we will not see Stan Lee in MCU's movies anymore. However, we are at least glad for the opportunity to see his last cameo. We are pleased that he was able to make this last cameo before he passed away. He was a force to be reckoned with and had one of the smartest minds ever. His creativity is topnotch, and because of this, he will be sorely missed. We all love Stan Lee and appreciate his contribution to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
