Lyanna Mormont's Heroic End Spurred A Huge String Of Comments And Most Of Them Are Hilarious
Sunday's episode of 'Game of Thrones' was thought to break the hearts of 'Game of Thrones' fans. With the last episode seeming to bring so many characters' arcs to an end, it was basically anyone's guess about who would be meeting their end in the Battle of Winterfell. Note: spoilers ahead. Beware!
The Night King and his giant army of wights and White Walkers craved nothing less than the end of Westeros and its inhabitants. We bade goodbye to many fans' favorite, including one of the Night's Watch's last characters, Dolorous Edd, and the Lord of Light's fave, Beric Dondarrion.
However, one of the deaths that stung the most was Lyanna Mormont's. Although most supporters would agree that Aryra has established herself as the MVP of the Battle of Winterfell, one of the episode’s other most significant moments came courtesy of Lyanna Mormont (Bella Ramsey), the Lady of Bear Island.
Following her pledge of allegiance to the King of the North back in Season 6, Lyanna stole the scene in every one of her appearances and continued to prove herself a powerful ally during the battle, even sacrificing her life to protect the castle.
In Sunday night’s bloodbath, Lyanna Mormont didn’t survive the brutal Battle of Winterfell. The young Lady of Bear Island’s story came to an end amid a stunning act of heroism: Standing up to, and actually defeating, a zombie giant (the smallest fighter in Winterfell taking down the Night King’s biggest soldier) as she was brutally crushed in his fist.
As heartbreaking as her death was, Lyanna died a hero. She took advantage of her closeness to the creature during her dying moment and stabbed it in the eye, killing it.
Sadly, when the Night King revived all the corpses as wights, she herself becomes one. But we won't dwell on that right now.
Unsurprisingly, fans were all over Twitter sharing their thoughts and feelings, and praising Lyanna as a hero down to the end.
Here are a few of the best Twitter reactions to the painful but heroic death of Lyanna Mormont.
