20 MCU Moments Noticeable Only For Adults
It is no secret that MCU movies have been for all ages for quite some time. Kids love seeing their favorite superheroes fighting villains on screen with shiny armors and cool weapons. But when it comes to adults, things might get a bit deeper, including stories that are so much mature than the regular plots.
In fact, movie producers love including ingenious references and jokes that could go over the heads of younger MCU followers. Wondering what we're talking about? Here you have the best adult moments that we could find in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so check them out!
10. PETER QUILL'S KINKY ACTIVITY
In 'Guardians of the Galaxy,' Star-Lord unwittingly revealed that he has a good eye for modern art. In the scene when Gamora told him his ship was filthy and then left, Peter suggested Rocket Raccoon that she had no idea. He also stated, "If I had a black light, this place would look like a Jackson Pollock painting."
Your art history would undoubtedly come into play to understand this dirty joke! Pollock was renowned for his splatter masterpieces as he used to drop paint on canvases to create splashed patterns. And if you know what things glow under black light, it means you already found out what Quill likes doing in his free time. Even Rocket believes that's gross!
9. MORE THAN JUST A ROMANCE
When remembering 'Age of Ultron,' it's hard to forget the sort of romance that Hulk and the Black Widow developed. But during the final battle, Iron Man made the best quip ever about it. He was inquiring about Romanoff and Banner's whereabouts when he claimed that they'd better not be playing hide the zucchini. Well, this vegetable is, long, banana-shaped, and green. Hulk is green, so you get it, don't you?
8. EXTENDING MORE THAN NEWS
During 'Iron Man 2,' we also got to see Pepper showing his double-meaning abilities. In the party scene, industrial rival Justin Hammer introduced Stark and Potts to a gorgeous Vanity Fair reporter who was doing a spread on the Hammer Industries businessman.
However, Pepper noted that she also did a large spread on Tony the previous year. Strictly speaking, she might have been talking about a two-page article in a magazine where both pages are part of a whole. But we guess that Pepper did not mean precisely that. There are many other ways of spreading, right?
7. THE ENCHANTMENT OF THE HAMMER
There's a scene in 'Age of Ultron' that we can't help loving for its naughty wit. The heroes were discussing the apparent magic spell on Thor's hammer during a party. As you might remember, the mythical weapon has an inscription that reads, "Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor."
Therefore, we already know that no one can pick it up unless the person is worthy. So, in the scene in question, Clint wanted to show that he was able to hold the hammer, and Tony told him, "You've had a tough week; we won't hold it against you if you can't get it up." But we're pretty sure Stark wasn't talking about the hammer, was he? Thank goodness he didn't offer him a blue pill!
6. THE PRIMITIVE MANNERS
Peter Quill has been nothing but direct when it comes to showing his affection to the stoic Gamora in the hopes of winning her over. However, there was a time in 'Guardians of the Galaxy' when he actually flirted with another woman, and he did so right in front of his soulmate.
When standing before the Sovereign High Priestess, she explained to the guardians how she designed and hatched the members of her society in birthing pods. To this, Star-Lord replied that he liked making people in the "old-fashioned way." Ayesha even suggested that he could show her how that was for academic purposes. The two then had a flirting moment until Quill remembered that the woman he cared about was right beside him.
5. THE OLD GOOD DAYS
MCU has included not only smart adult jokes but also references to historic pop-culture that only people from the 90s or before would understand; for instance, when Tony called Thor "Point Break" in 'The Avengers.' Don't worry! We won't hold it against you if you didn't get it.
But let us give you a hand with this one. 'Point Break' is a surfer-robbery movie from 1991 starring Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze. Iron Man ingeniously mocked the God of Thunder because of his resemblance to Swayze as he used to show off a long and luscious blonde mane much like Thor's. Oh! The 90s were just amazing. If not, you can ask Carol Denver!
4. THE ETERNAL QUESTION
And going a little bit further in the past, we have another movie/series reference, but this time it's even older. As you might know, Peter Quill's pop-culture clock stopped in the stint when the Ravagers kidnapped him as a kid in the 80s. That's why you might not get all his jokes from this decade, like when he mentioned 'Cheers.'
In volume 2 of the saga, Star-Lord compared his... thing with Gamora to the famous American sitcom 'Cheers.' In a nutshell, the endless dilemma of the show was whether the two stars would actually end up together. The answer is no, by the way. But Gamora didn't know this pretty much because she's not from the 80s (or from planet Earth anyway).
3. A FUNNY NUMBER TWO
Actions scenes do not always nail comedy, but when they do, it's just epic. One great example is the scene in 'Guardians of the Galaxy' when Rocket was threatening Quill with squishy poop in his bed, not his but Drax's. During the tense space chase, The Destroyer definitely made us laugh when he giggled and claimed, "I have famously huge turds." He undoubtedly scored 1 point for the Guardians' comedy chops!
2. IN THE SHAKESPEARE'S STYLE
In 'The Avengers,' Loki had a verbal confrontation with Natasha Romanoff that the English playwright would be proud of. Thor's bro called her a "mewling quim" which, according to Bleeding Cool, is an Old English misogynistic snub used against females as it insults their very nature.
This cannot be other than the sly wit of writer and director Joss Whedon. He's renowned for his works about Shakespeare and for having great talent with language. We cannot tell you precisely what the phrase means here, but just make sure you don't google it at the office!
1. AWKWARD POSITIONS
2008’s 'Iron Man' movie portrays Tony Stark as a billionaire playboy who frequently had numerous women in his bed. And part of the aftermath of this behavior was his assistant, Pepper Potts. This was evident in the scene where Pepper found Tony sorting out the system in Iron Man's suit. Stark was definitely in a weird position, but he pointed out it wasn't the most awkward one she had seen. We have nothing further to say!
