Biggest Difference Between Meghan's and Kate's First Royal Baby Photos
Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton are two royal women who always seem to be unfairly pitted against each other. However, as annoying as it may be, they’re married to brothers who happen to be British royalty. Which means a comparison between the two is essentially inescapable - especially when both of them are just so different from each other.
From supposed feuds to the way they dress, the latest talked about the difference between these women is the way Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle have chosen to announce their royal births and introduce their little babies to the world. Since everyone has the right to choose as they see fit, there is no right or wrong way to do these things. But, we’re not going to lie and say it isn’t interesting to see how differently Kate and Meghan have chosen to announce their babies births.
THE DUKE AND DUCHESS OF SUSSEX WAITED LONGER TO MAKE THEIR ANNOUNCEMENT

We are pleased to announce that Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their firstborn child in the early morning on May 6th, 2019. Their Royal Highnesses’ son weighs 7lbs. 3oz. The Duchess and baby are both healthy and well, and the couple thank members of the public for their shared excitement and support during this very special time in their lives. More details will be shared in the forthcoming days.
The way these women went about their births was different right from the very start. Just like Princess Diana got her picture taken on the steps of St. Mary’s Hospital Lindo Wing more than 30 years before with the princes, Kate Middleton chose to do the same. The Duchess of Cambridge decided to keep the tradition going, and got her picture snapped in the same way. Meghan Markle, on the other hand, decided to stray from royal tradition.
From the beginning, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced that everyone would have to wait for photos and details of the birth of Baby Sussex for a while. For the couple, it was important that they got the chance to bond as a family first. Of course, many people were shocked to hear this, since Middleton had done things the “proper” way before Markle.

Alas, Meghan Markle stood her ground, as she always does. The Duchess made it clear that we won’t be seeing a picture of her and her newborn right away. In fact, people were so bewildered with the announcement that they began coming up with conspiracy theories that the baby was somehow already secretly born! Of course, all the talk was put to rest when Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor was welcomed into the world on May 6, 2019.
Since the Duchess of Cambridge got her photo taken with their baby on the hospital steps, the general public got to see the royal baby almost instantly after being born. In fact, the Cambridge’s took their babies’ first pictures only a few hours after their births. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s announcement, on the other hand, was drastically different. Although they did officially confirm the birth just hours after it happened, we didn’t get to see any pictures or even find out the name until two days later, on May 8.
SOCIAL MEDIA WAS THEIR MAIN OUTLET FOR THE ANNOUNCEMENT

This afternoon, His Royal Highness The Duke of Sussex shared the news of the arrival of his and the Duchess’ first born child. Their son was born early morning on the 6th of May, 2019 and weighs 7lbs and 3oz. Their Royal Highnesses thank you for your support and kindness during this exceptionally joyful time in their lives as they welcome their baby boy.
When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle created their own personal Instagram handle, @sussexroyal, it was a pretty big deal. They actually became the first to break away from the royal family account. The account ended up breaking previous records, as they began to gain millions of follows in just a couple of days. From the start, people were assuming that they’d use the platform to update the general public on their baby - and that’s exactly what happened!
A video was posted of Prince Harry, where he spoke with reporters about the birth of his son. And that’s not the only thing the couple did to share the exciting news. Harry and Meghan also posted the birth announcement on their Instagram account, along with his name, and blessed us with the beautiful, first photos of the baby. This is completely different from the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. The couple didn’t rely on social media as their main method of announcing their children’s births in 2013, 2015, and 2018.

This was one of the main things that everyone took notice to right away - and feminists support it wholeheartedly! In their first baby photos, Prince Harry appeared holding the baby. Of course, being the progressive couple that they are, the Sussexes are sending a clear message to the world about equality and the importance of the father's role in raising a child. The picture says it all - everyone can see Prince Harry’s commitment to his family. Again, the photos come in contrast to the Cambridge's and the royal baby photos that came before. In all of the pictures, the mother was pictured holding the baby instead.

And lastly (but definitely not least, since they’re being compared for it all the time), the way the royal women decided to embrace their postpartum body through fashion was different as well.
There’s no denying it - Meghan Markle is glowing, radiant, and looks absolutely overjoyed in her family photo shoot. And when we look at her choice of clothing, it's clear to us that she’s embracing her baby bump, instead of trying to hide it. The Duchess paired her classic, trench-style dress with nude pumps. For accessories, she wore a delicate, meaningful Jennifer Meyer turquoise necklace. She also let her hair down loose, as it naturally sat around her shoulder.
Meghan’s sister-in-law, however, did things a bit differently. Although Kate ended up wearing Jenny Packham dresses for all three debuts of her kids (just like Markle), her style choice definitely wasn’t the same. Instead, the Duchess of Cambridge opted for loose-fitting clothing. Meghan Markle, who decided to rock a form-hugging dress with a belt at the waistline, that clearly put an accent on her figure.

After giving birth to Prince George in 2013, Kate sported a blue with white polka dots dress, a yellow and white with a floral print for Prince Charlotte’s arrival in 2015, and a red with a white collar with Prince Louis. And, a move that stirred some controversy, she stepped out of the hospital in heels and a perfect blowout - only a couple hours after giving birth.
Every woman is different, and we all have the right and freedom of choice to do what we feel is right. Kate and Meghan are noticeably different in the choices they make - but there is definitely a beauty behind that, too. Both of these women deserve an equal amount of respect for everything they’ve gone through. What do you guys think about these differences? Comment your opinions below!
