The future of the MCU - from Galactus to the new Avengers. What to expect from MCU 4th phase?
‘Avengers: Endgame’ was the perfect end of an era for the MCU, and although Kevin Feige confirmed that ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ was the official end of Phase Three, there is a still a lot we can tell about the future of the franchise right now. Many fans have already come up with their own theories regarding Phase Four, and Marvel might surprise everyone. Let’s find out more!
LOKI AND DISNEY+
It has been confirmed that Loki, played by Tom Hiddleton, will star in his own series on Disney’s new streaming service, Disney+. However, not much is known about the plot of the show, but ‘Endgame’ could have hinted at something. When our heroes travel to the past to find the stones, Iron Man and Ant-Man failed to obtain the Tesseract.
Instead, Loki takes and disappears to somewhere unknown. Steve and Tony go further back in time to get the gem from another point, but there is a still a timeline where Loki ran away with the Space Stone. That could mean that the events of ‘Thor: The Dark World’ and even ‘Ragnarok’ never occur in that timeline. What will the God of Mischief do?
THE FEMALE SUPERHEROES
After the success of ‘Captain Marvel’, it seems that the studio might focus on the female heroines for some time. A solo movie about Black Widow is expected to come out early in Phase Four, and it has to be epic because Natasha died in ‘Avengers: Endgame’. Marvel is ready to embrace this new era of female protagonists, especially after a very cool scene in their latest film.
Captain Marvel took the gauntlet from Peter Parker during the battle scene of the movie, and all the girls, including Pepper Potts, Scarlet Witch, Okoye, and more joined her to help take the stones to the past and return them. It was absolutely epic for all female fans, and we hope Marvel can represent girls better in the future.
THE FUTURE IRON MAN
One of the saddest parts of the ‘Endgame’ was the death of Tony Stark, who had to sacrifice himself and snap his fingers because they had only one chance to win against Thanos. Normal people cannot take the power of the stones, and they killed him. However, it was a worthy sacrifice. Now, fans are wondering if Marvel might introduce a new Iron Man.
The most obvious – and our favorite – choice for the character is Tony’s daughter, Morgan H. Stark. Just like her father, she was into technology, and after his sacrifice, the little girl will definitely want to honor him. However, another option is the kid from ‘Iron Man 3’, Harley Keener, who attended Tony’s funeral.
THE SOUND AT THE END
Unlike most of the MCU films in the past, ‘Endgame’ did not have a post-credits scene, but there was a strange sound that resembled the noise of an anvil falling right when the Marvel logo appeared. Fans have already come up with theories about the meaning of it. One idea is that the MCU is just like a forge or a blacksmith that can create things out of nothing.
Another notion is that it is the sound of Tony making his first Iron Man suit, and it might be a hint that a new Iron Man will come. On the other hand, it could be the noise of the dwarves working in Nidavellir as they can create the greatest weapons in the Marvel Universe. Some believe that it was a hint about Annihilus, the villain many fans thought would appear in this film.
THE NEW CAPTAIN AMERICA
Steve Rogers was tasked to return the stones to the past, and he decided to go back to the 1940s and marry Peggy Carter. He appeared in the future as an old man and gave the Captain America shield to Sam Wilson/Falcon. Falcon was Captain America for a while in the comic books, and we will have to wait and see if he will be as worthy as Rogers.
THE AVENGERS NEED A LEADER
Now that Iron Man and Captain America are out of the Avengers, the group needs a solid leader. In fact, the only original remaining on the team is Hulk, and who knows what he will do in the future. The most logical option is Carol Danvers, but the studio still needs to reveal more about her history and how she might join others on Earth to fight for justice.
ANOTHER CIVIL WAR
Carol Danvers does not seem like a team player, and if she is the new leader of the Avengers, there might be a conflict with someone like Falcon/Captain America. He has been part of the team for a lot longer, and they could end up disagreeing enough for a second ‘Civil War’. Of course, it won’t play out like the first one, but it might be just as interesting.
In the comics, the main disagreements happened between Captain Marvel and Iron Man, and they centered on Ulysses’ predictions of the future. Carol wanted to get rid of criminals even before they committed the bad deeds, and Iron Man was against it.
MATURE PETER PARKER
The MCU introduced an adorable Peter Parker that was more similar to the comics than previous versions of the character. However, after ‘Endgame’, he might not be the same kid he was in the first movie. Even the previews for ‘Far From Home’ suggest that Peter has a different, more mature, mindset, mainly because of the loss of Tony Stark.
It seems like they might develop his character from the ‘Ultimate’ version to the ‘Amazing’ version of Spider-Man. In it, Peter has even created a huge company, and Phase Four might feature another big time-jump that fans are not expecting.
THE AVENGERS PROGRAM
After ‘Endgame’, the team needs new people because most of the originals are gone, and introducing new superheroes is also the way to feature new villains. In the comics, after the events of ‘Civil War’, the government designed a new program to train superheroes to protect the world. It was called ‘Avengers: Initiative’. Many young superheroes were added and events like ‘Secret Invasion’ took place after it.
THOR IS A GUARDIAN NOW
The end of ‘Avengers: Endgame’ showed Thor boarding the ship with the rest of the Guardians – minus Gamora – after he gave the throne to Valkyrie. Therefore, Thor, played by Chris Hemsworth, should appear in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’. This opens several possibilities like the introduction of the Asgardians of the Galaxy, which debuted in 2018.
The Disney-Fox merger is finally complete and the saga of the Infinity Stones is over. Therefore, the MCU has to build a whole new story. However, some believe that the use of time traveling, the stones, and the gauntlet might bring more consequences than most people imagine. An alternative universe might have accidentally and unknowingly have been created, and they could use it to introduce the X-Men.
THE NEW VILLAINS
Thanos was such an amazing villain that it is hard to imagine the MCU surpassing him. However, there are many options, and most fans believe that Galactus comes next and his herald, Silver Surfer. If the surfer appears, then, the Fallen could also be introduced. He was able to control dark matter. Another option is Abraxas, who came to be after the Big Bang.
He was the opposite of Eternity and wanted to eliminate the whole universe and all beings. If the MCU goes into more details about the mythical side of life then, Mephisto could be a great option for the new villain. Although he is part of the ‘Silver Surfer’ comics, he could be introduced through the use of the mystic arts or even the Quantum Realm.
The future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe looks bright, and apparently, we will spend our whole lives waiting for these films. Let us know what you want to see next in the franchise. If you liked this article, share it with your friends who cannot wait for more. See you next time!
