Britney Spears Is Reportedly In No State To Function On Her Own According To Family

Pop icon Britney Spears is going through a challenging time. Her longtime manager Larry Rudolph says the popular singer may never perform again. In a conversation with TMZ, Rudolph reveals,

"As the person who guides her career, based on the information I and all of the professionals who work with her are being told on a need-to-know basis — from what I have gathered, it's clear to me she should not be going back to do this Vegas residency, not in the near future and possibly never again."

Larry has managed Spears for a large part of her career, going back to her inaugural album, "Baby… One More Time," in 1999. He tells Variety:

"I've been with her for two-thirds of her life. I look at her almost like I look at my own daughter. It is very emotional for me … and really rough. Personally, I want for her to just find a peaceful, happy place — whatever that means for her. It's not about a career anymore — it's about life."

Britney is scheduled to have a psychological evaluation after suspending her Las Vegas residency in the wake of her dad's recent therapy for a ruptured colon. Rudolph says that, though Britney had rehearsed the show (the residency was scheduled to be launched on February 13), the Vegas engagement is definitely off, which is what provoked his speaking out in the early hours of May 15.

Rudolph explained that the conclusion was reached not to continue with the Vegas residency. And the question of what she is going to do next is not the focus Britney or her family is bothered with right now. He said:

"She is taking time to regroup and get her head together. She is putting herself ahead of everyone else, and I'm proud of her for that. If she never works again, she never works again.

"My role is to handle her career when she wants a career. If she comes back strong and full of desire and passion and wants to do it, great. If she takes off six months or six years, it is totally fine. To me, it's about her finding her happy place."

Britney's dad Jamie Spears has been her co-conservator since 2008 when she experienced a very public breakdown. Jamie became sole conservator this year following the resignation of attorney Andrew Wallet from his co-conservatorship in March. Jamie Spears' return from his ailment apparently has not been smooth; after suspending her residency, Britney Spears later checked herself into a health facility for a month-long stay, experiencing stress due to his illness.

Larry says that "[Britney] is the one whose focus is on [getting better]. She is driving it." This is in contradiction to the belief put forward by the "Free Britney" movement that she is being imprisoned against her wish.

"I understand how much these fans love her and support her and I love that," says Rudolph. "The part that concerns me is that it has no factual basis. The personal issues that Britney is dealing with are highly complicated, and the conservatorship is there for a reason. The courts of the State of California take this very seriously. I hope the people allow her to have her private time."

Britney's business team is not included in the conservatorship, nor is Rudolph privy to her medications or private life, which reveals why he has not spoken to his client "in 4 or 5 months." At the same time, Larry says he is glad that Spears "is not thinking about her business and her career — she is dealing with these issues. Her not calling me tells me that she is taking care of herself."

Britney Spears checked herself into a health facility in late March, to deal with the tremendous stress she has been having over her dad's current health crisis. But she left for many hours on several occasions during her treatment, including an Easter Sunday trip to the Montage hotel in Beverly Hills in the company of her boyfriend, Sam Asghari.

Some media reports, citing an unnamed tipster, alleged the 'Baby One More Time' crooner was declining to take the medicine that had been prescribed in the wake of her strange behavior in 2007 and 2008. The tipster purportedly claimed that Jamie had insisted the residency be postponed and that Britney cite his illness as the reason.

Larry has been in touch with Britney's parents, but reemphasizes that his involvement is "on a need-to-know basis." Still, he remains "very close" with the music icon.

As regards her music, Spears is still signed to RCA Records and "at some point, she will record again," says Rudolph. "There is a slow-moving project she has been dabbling in and out of that is the beginning of something."

Earlier this year, Variety reported that hit songwriter Justin Tranter came aboard as an executive producer of a prospective album. "She'll come back to it when she is ready," says Larry. "She has been working since she was a kid. At 37 years old, she has worked more than most people who hit retirement age."

I wanted to say hi, because things that are being said have just gotten out of control!!! Wow!!! There’s rumors, death threats to my family and my team, and just so many things crazy things being said. I am trying to take a moment for myself, but everything that’s happening is just making it harder for me. Don’t believe everything you read and hear. These fake emails everywhere were crafted by Sam Lutfi years ago... I did not write them. He was pretending to be me and communicating with my team with a fake email address. My situation is unique, but I promise I’m doing what’s best at this moment 🌸🌸🌸 You may not know this about me, but I am strong, and stand up for what I want! Your love and dedication is amazing, but what I need right now is a little bit of privacy to deal with all the hard things that life is throwing my way. If you could do that, I would be forever grateful. Love you ❤️❤️❤️

Since Spears left treatment late last April, she has shared many Instagram posts, including one posted after a widely reported public protest in West Hollywood organized by the "Free Britney" movement. In a video posted on April 24, Spears said:

"Hi guys, just checking in with all of you who have been concerned about me. All is well. My family has been going through a lot of stress and anxiety lately so I just needed time to deal. But don't worry, I will be back very soon."

Nevertheless, the drama grew last week when Britney's mom Lynne, who divorced from Jamie in 2002, filed court papers requesting permission for an attorney to appear on her behalf at the hearing. In the documents, her lawyers wrote that it was in Britney's "best interest to permit Lynne Spears to have a say at the Status Hearing," per CNN.

Britney Spears appeared at a conservatorship hearing last week and caused some alarm when she was snapped leaving it barefoot, evoking memories of her erratic behavior in 2007 and 2008, which led to her dad being chosen as her conservator. The next court date is slated for September 18.
