Will ‘The Big Bang Theory’ Cast Members Remain Friends in Real Life?

'The Big Bang Theory’ was one of the most popular sitcoms on television, and on Thursday, May 16, 2019, it aired the final episode. For the past 12 years, the show displayed the lives of a group of seven friends and their geeky antics, but fans wonder what will happen now that it’s over. Will the cast remain close? Let’s find out!

For the past decade, franchises such as ‘The Avengers’ and ‘Game of Thrones’ turned what was once considered geeky and nerdy into a huge part of pop culture. ‘The Big Bang Theory’ succeeded in this area too as it showed the lives of four real nerds that loved superheroes, comic books, sci-fi, and more. It was a tribute to people who grew up loving the same things but were often ridiculed for it.

Luckily, the message the show tried to convey got through to many viewers around the globe, and everyone learned to embrace that part of themselves better. No one is afraid to say they love ‘Star Trek’ anymore or that they enjoy playing ‘Dungeons and Dragons’, and it is all due, in part, to ‘The Big Bang Theory’.

Sadly, the end of the series means that the cast members will go on with their lives and pursue other projects. Even if their future ventures bring some of them back together, it will never be the same. While it’s easy to believe that all of them were that close in real life, most people know that that is not the case.

However, most fans hope that, at least, some of them became true friends in the real world. Kaley Cuoco, Johnny Galecki, Jim Parsons, Melissa Rauch, Kunal Nayyar, Mayim Bialik, and Simon Helberg were the faces of Penny, Leonard, Sheldon, Bernadette, Rajesh, Amy, and Howard for 12 years.

The show premiered in 2007, and the main cast did not change much but added Rauch and Bialik along the way. The fact that it kept its steady success season after season for this long without major changes is a testament to how good it was, and how much fans loved it. It is also a sign that the actors got along so well and were great professionals.

In fact, in 2017, the actors proved their professionalism and their willingness to work as one unit. According to Variety, the original five members of the cast were making $1 million per episode, and they agreed to a pay cut so that Bialik and Rauch could get a salary raise. Since then, the seven actors have received the same amount per episode. Variety wrote,

“The move is evidence of the strong camaraderie among the key players on the show that remains primetime’s most-watched comedy.”

For some time, people have known that Jim Parsons and Johnny Galecki, who played Sheldon Cooper and Leonard Hofstadter, were really close in real life. Their friendship developed from everything they had in common, and it truly showed on television with their characters’ hilarious chemistry. It is very likely that both actors will keep their relationship despite going their separate ways professionally.

Furthermore, Parsons once talked about becoming close to Simon Helberg, who played Howard Wolowitz, and he also mentioned their long talks on set. The actor commented,

“I’ll particularly miss Simon Helberg; we spend a lot of time together, we go back and forth to our dressing rooms, we’ve talked for almost 12 years now.”

Galecki also became good friends with Mayim Bialik, although they met long before she was cast as Amy Farrah Fowler. Bialik had her own television show in the 90s titled ‘Blossom’ where Galecki appeared for a short time as one of her love interests. In fact, ‘Blossom’ and the actress were mentioned in one of the early seasons of ‘The Big Bang Theory’.

The two actors kept communicating with each other after ‘Blossom’, and they will probably continue their friendship for a long time.

While everyone would like to believe that they are as close in real life as their characters, that is not the case. The show is a business, after all. Some of the actors have formed unbreakable bonds thanks to their work, but others will keep things professional and move on with their careers. Some relationships might not survive.

Over the years, it was reported several times that Kaley Cuoco and Mayim Bialik did not get along very well. In fact, some outlets stated that the actresses got into fights when the cameras were off, and producers had to pull them apart sometimes because it got too far. But, Bialik addressed those malicious rumors, explaining that the cast members were all on good terms.

While it is hard to know if those stories were true or false, many fans believe that Cuoco and Bialik will not remain friends now that the show is over. Check out what these actors did before becoming the huge stars they are today.

Leonard and Penny argued about having a baby after Penny revealed that she didn’t want kids, and Howard and Bernadette continued their lives with two children and Stewart living at their house.

Additionally, Rajesh was sad that all his friends had gotten married and asked his parents to set him up with an Indian woman. He got engaged to Anu but eventually broke it off to date for real. In the end, they broke up for good, and the series ended with Raj as a single man. The last episode revealed several “bangs”, though.
