John Wick: Untold Truth
If you are a die-hard movie fan, you must have watched 'John Wick' at least twice or maybe more. You must have even gone through them for some information or even fun facts, but there's still a lot we don't know about the life of the deadly dog-loving character, John Wick. As a result of the detailed 'John Wick' movies, many fans assumed that the movie was based on a novel because of its substantial details and John's intense background story as a hired killer nicknamed "Baba Yaga." However, that isn't the case. With the third sequel of John Wick, 'John Wick: Chapter 3- Parabellum' out in the cinemas, we bring you the untold truth about the movie 'John Wick.'
WAS JOHN WICK ADAPTED FROM A NOVEL?
The answer to the above question is no. John Wick wasn't adapted from a novel. It was an actual original script. In 2012, Derek Kolstad, a writer, came up with the idea and started working on it. It was a project he initially titled 'Scorn.' It was about a man whose dealings are evil and ruthless who later got hope and left the game. Shortly, his faith was snatched from him.
HOW THEN DID IT BECOME A MOVIE
The writer, Derek Kolstad rallied round to studios to get one to show interest, but more than one did. He eventually had to sell it to Thunder Road Pictures with the promise that they'd make the movie as soon as they can. In the original script, John Wick was supposed to be quite older, the retired gunman. Derek revised the scripts after Thunder Road bought the rights, assisted by Keanu Reeves.
THE MOVIE HAS COMIC BOOKS AND VIDEO GAMES.
Although the movie is not based on a comic or a video game, the character of John Wick has made strides in both words. A comic book series about John Wick's background story has been produced by Dynamite Entertainment for a while now. Even gamers have a taste of what it's like to be in John Wick's mind; playing a VR shooter called 'John Wick Chronicles.' To enjoy the full effect, be sure to play a few hours of Nintendogs first.
KEANU REEVES, THE ACTOR
Keanu Reeves has starred in many momentous movies such as 'Bill & Ted' and 'Speed.' In 1999, he landed a role that changed his career for the better. He played a career-defining role of Neo in the Matrix film series. It was a pacesetter for action movies likewise a trilogy. The movie gave pop culture one of the best theories about alternate realities. Reeves is, indeed, the perfect action star! He was the techno-mystical Neo, "The One" who controls the false reality of the Matrix, and this made him right for the role of John Wick— the almighty hitman that other hitmen are scared of.
SIMILARITIES BETWEEN THE MATRIX SERIES AND JOHN WICK SERIES.
Apart from Keanu Reeves being the actor of the central characters in the two movies, they both share other things. The two directors of The Matrix, Chad Stahelski, and David Leitch did stunts and Stahelski was Reeves' stuntman. 'John Wick: Chapter 2' brought together Keanu Reeves and Laurence Fishburne— who was also in The Matrix. Ardent fans might have noticed one more thing, the key maker in The Matrix Reloaded, Randall Duk Kim, was also the doctor in the first John Wick sequel.
STUNTMAN AND DIRECTOR
Keanu Reeves put a lot of work into the movie 'The Matrix.' He even worked closely with the writer, Derek Kolstad, and paid attention to every tiny detail that can bolster his mysterious character. No wonder it turned out so well! It's also not surprising that he employed the help of his former crew members on 'The Matrix' to not only help with the stunts but with the directing.
Reeves initially reached out to the producers of 'The Matrix,' Chad Stahelski, and David Leitch hoping that they'd agree to direct 'John Wick.' Luckily, they were thrilled to be on board. It was easy to direct Keanu's stunts as it's something they have done before. The producers noted that their success on 'John Wick' was a result of 'The Matrix.' They said without 'The Matrix' they don't know how the other movies they did would have turned out.
KEANU REEVES, A STAR AND STUNTMAN
Keanu Reeves had to learn a lot of stunts for his movies, and we can call him a stuntman. To prepare for 'John Wick,' he spent months training with a SWAT team and former Navy SEALS too. This was because the producers, Chad Stahelski and David Leitch insisted that Keanu learn new stunts for 'John Wick' and not rely on his previous knowledge of martial arts. He did a lot of tricks and most of them with no double, in 'John Wick: Chapter 2.' The next series has more stunt than the last. He had more feats in the second sequel than the first and seeing an excerpt of 'John Wick: Chapter 3- Parabellum' there is an ample amount of stunts.
ONE OF THE PRODUCERS OF JOHN WICK YOU WOULDN'T BELIEVE
We're quite sure that when you find out one of the producers of John Wick, you wouldn't believe it. Well, according to a DVD commentary, Eva Longoria, who portrays the role of Gabrielle Solis on 'Desperate Housewives' is one of the producers of first John Wick movie. David and Chad said even though they haven't met her before they're grateful for the check she sent. Now we know we have Eva Longoria to thank for funding one of the greatest action movies of all time.
THE INSPIRATION BEHIND JOHN WICK
David Leitch and Chad Stahelski used their experience from other action movies they've worked on but 'John Wick' had its inspiration from classic action movies and even horror novels. The producers even said that a lot of films inspired them from, 'The Good, The Bad And The Ugly' to 'Point Blank,' and also 'The Killer.' Writer, Derek Kolstad cited Stephen King as one of the inspirations of the movie. The major theme being the lengths a broken man will go, which is a common theme in King's horror novels.
PARTING WAYSChad Stahelski and David Leitch co-directed the first sequel of John Wick, but the rules of the Directors Guild of America permitted that only Stahelski could be named the director while Leitch would be credited as one of the producers. Nevertheless, they continued to have a good working relationship, but they split up, and Stahelski directed John Wick 2 and 3 himself. Leitch continued to work, and he produced a great movie that same year 'John Wick: Chapter 2' came out. The film is 'Atomic Blonde,' is an action-packed movie. He also worked on 'Deadpool 2' and 'Fast And Furious: Hobbs & Shaw.' His split up with Stahelski doesn't hurt one bit. He stays in touch with Stahelski to help with advice and ideas.
It's impressive that they could retain most of the original cast of 'John Wick,' including Chad Stahelski and the writer, Derek Kolstad. Stahelski and other fans are hopeful that this series continues for quite a while. Stahelski said that Reeves is one of the major forces behind the major and that he would gladly continue to work with the John Wick universe.
"I enjoy making these movies because there's no limit. We create our own mythology."
WHAT DO THE COINS MEAN?
If you have all been working wondering what the coins were and of what is the value, well the answer is here. You must think John Wick uses the coins to do all sort from booking a room to getting a cocktail to a secret body disposal payment. Is the pay balanced? Well, the producers have cited that the coins are not about the amount. Instead, it's about the significance as it was meant as a sign of identification; more like a business card. The coin holder is an in-person(someone that knows the happenings and is in), and that's what they are meant for. So, if you have been thinking in terms of the amount, you're on the wrong track.
The hotel in the movie, The Continental has a lot of mysteries hovering around it. It has a lot of rules also like using only coins as a means of payment, and no killing of anyone within the premises. In early 2018, there was news that there would be a TV series based on the hotel, The Continental, from the John Wick universe. Reeves is one of the producers and executives from the network asked fans to expect to see him once in a while. Derek Kolstad, David Leitch, and Chad Stahelski will be on working on this project. Adding more anticipation to the excitement we had before.
