Outdaughtered' Behind the Scenes: Revealing Facts About Popular TV Show
The Busbys and their six daughters have held a place in the heart of their audience since 2016 after the show's first season aired. Now, waiting for the fifth season, fans can get to know more about this adorable and ‘girly’ family. The Busby family made history on television and in the world when they welcomed their quintuplets in 2015. Adam and Danielle already had a little daughter, Blayke, born in April 2011, who repented became the older sister of the quintuplets. The reality show has a faithful audience that has enjoyed the experiences of this unusual family, where the challenges of raising five newborns at the same time are a great effort and dedication without equal, not without fun moments and tons of love.
ADAM AND DANIELLE MEET AT WORK
Adam and Danielle love story dates back to 2003, where they met as co-workers at Target, somewhere in Louisiana. When interviewed by Style Blueprint in 2017, Danielle narrated how they met, and how Adam was the first person to start the conversation by telling her she was beautiful. She also remembered that their carts hit each other before they could even initiate a conversation. Adam would later be the smart guy who doesn’t let a fine lady leave like that. He asked her on a date after they got to know each other better. They got married in 2006, and since then, they haven’t looked back.
THE FAMILY MOVED FROM LOUISIANA TO TEXAS
Danielle and Adam got married in 2006, and before the quintuplets were born they made the decision to move from Lake Charles, Louisiana, where they are both, to League City, Texas. Being a large family they also needed a large house that became their home.
THEY HAD PROBLEMS TO GET PREGNANT
After a year of marriage and trying hard to get pregnant, the couple decided to try intrauterine insemination, finding that they had difficulties to conceive naturally. After several rounds, Danielle became pregnant with her firstborn Blayke.
SECOND PREGNANCY CAME WITH A SURPRISE
Adam and Danielle did not want to have only one daughter, so they resorted again to intrauterine insemination to achieve a second pregnancy. What they did not expect is that Danielle's four ovules were fertilized and that one of them developed into twins.
When doctors explained the details of this new pregnancy, and that they had five babies on the way, Adam spilled his hot drink and began to tremble. Meanwhile, Danielle had a completely different reaction: she laughed hysterically due to the shock, and she couldn't stop laughing. Nobody receives the news of expecting not just twins but quintuplets that would not be shocked. Such report carries with it both joy and uneasiness.
DANIELLE HAD TO EAT 4500 DAILY CALORIES
Danielle had to increase her food intake, considering that she had five other fetuses to feed apart from herself. The increase in food intake was crucial as she had to get as many nutrients as possible to satisfy her fetuses and herself. It was some gigantic kind of feeding. Speaking to Fit magazine in 2016, Danielle said there were times during her pregnancy that she had to consume as much as 4,500 calories daily. She had a dietitian who allowed her to eat anything as much as possible to be able to meet up with the daily intake needed to satisfy her..
THE BABIES ARRIVED BY C-SECTION
The birth of the quintuples was scheduled to be performed by caesarean section at 28 weeks when each weighed about two pounds to two and a half pounds. This type of intervention is the most common in multiple pregnancies. Fun fact: The five girls were born in just four minutes.
THREE MONTHS IN NICU
Having been born at 28 weeks, 12 weeks premature, the five babies had to spend three months in the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit), until they gained enough weight to be able to go home. On his Instagram page in November 2015, Adam posted: “The NICU is a tough place to visit each day hoping and praying that you’re little ones pull through.” That was a sincere prayer that anyone could relate to knowing the condition of babies in the place. Nobody with a sane mind wants to lose their child. The kids would later survive and become TV sensations.
POST PARTUM ADAM ISSUES
Most people attribute post-partum depression with only women, which is not entirely accurate as fathers too battle with this depression. The thoughts of how to be a proper father are more than enough to trigger depression. Adam has spoken openly about his problems after the birth of the quintuplets. He had to fight face to face with postpartum depression, and learn that it is a real problem that affects many parents around the world. He is determined to provide his experience as support for those who go through this same situation.
Probably because of the problems caused by this postpartum depression, Adam was distant and different during that season. Fans of the show soon speculated that he was having an affair and was unfaithful to Danielle. This rumor continued to grow wings, sometimes leaving Danielle in some terrible mood. Fortunately, it was only a rumor and the couple was able to overcome this stage together and get stronger.
HELP TO CONTROL THEIR FINANCES
Raising five babies at once, one girl and a wife definitely put pressure on any family budget. Adam, as the main provider has struggled to maintain the balance between family expenses and certain expensive tastes and whims. He and Danielle sought specialized advice to efficiently manage their finances.
GRANDMA HELPED WITH THE BABIES
Danielle's mother, Mimi, moved with them at the birth of the quintuplets to help with the care of the six girls. Although her collaboration with the family has been invaluable, there was a point when the couple was ready to let her go and take responsibility for the girls on their own.
BACK TO PARENT WORK
Adam took time to be with his children and his wife when the quints arrived in the world, but he had to return to work. Father Busby works full time in sales at “Intrinsic Solutions” as Key Account Manager. Danielle, on the other hand, takes care of girls as the main occupation, however, she used to work in the study of the cycle they own with friends.
DANIELLE RETURNED TO HER SLIM BODY
After having five babies, any woman is not only tired but wants to regain her figure and weight as soon as possible. Danielle is no exception, and thanks to fitness, diet, and exercise she managed to look as if she had never had six children.
HOW MUCH THEY WIN
Fans have speculated a lot about how much the Busby family earns for participating in the “OutDaughtered” show. According to show production data, each episode has an estimated cost of $ 250,000 to $ 400,000 to perform each episode. The Busbys receive approximately 10% of that amount. Apart from that, Danielle receives approximately $ 900 for recommending products on Instagram.
THE FAMILY SURVIVED HURRICANE HARVEY
Although Adam and Danielle come from Louisiana and are more than familiar with hurricanes for all their years there, they had never had to go through one with the girls. Fortunately, they did not have to evacuate the house, but it was a challenge to entertain the girls the entire time they were locked up without being able to leave.
EVERY GIRL HAS HER OWN PERSONALITY
Olivia and Ava are identical twins, and the oldest is Ava sweet but serious. Olivia is funny and loves to make her audience laugh. Hazel is the third and is the only redhead, and for a while, she did not develop at the same pace as her sisters so she required therapeutic support, she also has a condition in her eyes that requires surgery and was the last one to walk but has a great vocabulary.
Riley is the fourth girl, and she loves to explore, she is also "drama queen" when she wants something and always gets her way. Parker is the youngest of all, and although she is extremely active she is also the shyest of all.
EVERYTHING IS AT HOME
Adam and Danielle have invested in a business with four friends: an indoor cycling company named “Rush Cycle”. According to the company's website its purpose is: “being active, getting together with friends, and prioritizing faith and family.”
Although some fans have speculated that the Busby have a nanny and have not been honest about the help they receive with the girls, they don't have a nanny and take care of the girls both, mainly Danielle, although Adam can presume that he combs the girl's hair better than her.
A BLOG TO KEEP IN DETAIL
Fans of the show want to know every detail of the Busby and they love to share their activities with them, so not only can they wait for the season on TV, they can also enjoy them through their blog. Girls sometimes don't want to be in front of the camera and they as parents respect that and don't force them.
THE GIRLS HAVE DISTINCT PERSONALITIES
These girls might have come out of the same womb at the same time, but it doesn’t mean they are supposed to have the same characters. The saying that everyone is unique in his or her way is as reliable as can be, irrespective of how strikingly similar they may appear in looks. Each has traits that distinguish them from other people. Just as Olivia loves always to have fun, so is the Parker who may appear shy but bursts with energy. Same cannot be said of Riley, who combines strength and outspokenness, Hazel, in her rights, seems to be the one with the exceptional usage of words. Ava, on the other hand, can be silly only if triggered. Instead, she preferred to be the silent and thoughtful one.
18. TWO OF THE QUINTUPLETS ARE IDENTICAL
According to biology, there are two types of twins. We have the fraternal twins: they are birthed at almost the same time and have no apparent facial similarity. And then the identical twins that result from one egg splitting and having the same facial features with a little discrepancy. For this quintuplets, two of them were identical.
When Danielle underwent artificial insemination in which four eggs were inserted into her uterus, one of the eggs split into two. That created two identical fetuses and three fraternal fetuses. What this means, in essence, is that while the other three kids were without similar facial features, Ava and Olivia were spitting images of each other.
ADAM HAS MADE EXTRAVAGANT PURCHASES - ONCE BOUGHT A DRONE
Adam and Danielle had their issues just as every other duo in wedlock. Adam and Danielle’s problem was money management. It would seem that Adam loves luxury and to be truthful, a luxury that wasn’t really needed. On one occasion, we saw Adam purchasing a drone which was captured on Outdaughtered.
This extravagance from Adam was what always led to disagreement between the couple. To put in simpler terms, Adam needed how to know how to manage money. This issue was what drove Danielle to hire a financial manager or advisor, so to speak, who would oversee how they spend money.
THEY ARGUED OVER DANIELLE RETURNING TO WORK
When Danielle brought up the discussion of her returning to her work, Adam was reticent as he wasn’t sure how that would allow them to raise the kids properly as they would have wanted. The idea became an issue for them. They had to find a solution before it became a full-blown problem which they might not be able to handle anymore.
When asked on the show about her job, she was emphatic on her love for the job. In her words, “I feel like I’m that woman known only for having a half dozen daughters, but I had a career... and I loved my job”. Adam’s concern was who would take care of the kids if she finally resumed work. The duo would later reach a consensus luckily.
DANIELLE’S MOM LIVED WITH THE FAMILY - BUT THEY WANTED HER GONE
Danielle’s mother, Mimi, moved into the house just after the quintuplets came. She intended to help the couple with some of the tasks they would have to face handling five kids alone. It is what a sizeable number of mothers would do for their daughters, lending a helping hand. However, as the second season of the reality show started, the couple decided against Mimi staying with them.
They harped on the fact that they were ready to take responsibility for their kids without any external help. On the day they finally decided to tell Mimi, there was this atmosphere of awkwardness. The couple announced to Mimi that they had found a place for her.
HAZEL ISN’T DEVELOPING AS QUICKLY AS HER SISTERS
As it is typical with having several children who were given birth to at the same time, there is always the mild problem of the children developing at different rates. This varying growth rate can be a problem, especially if it a notable difference among children. It didn’t take long for Adam and Danielle to discern that Hazel wasn’t growing as rapidly as the others.
When they discovered that Hazel couldn’t walk at the time others were attempting, they decided to seek and hire the services of an occupational therapist. The professional was to assist Hazel to get back on the same groove as the others. Another problem Hazel had was the motion of her eyes, which they later realized would need corrective surgery to restore the tissues.
THE QUINTUPLETS HAVE HEART MURMUR
It turned out that Hazel wasn’t the only one facing medical crises; all of them had a common problem. It must have been trying for Adam and Danielle to take in when they found out that their kids had medical conditions that had to do with a vital organ.
When the doctor told them that the quintuplets had heart murmurs, it was altogether shocking news to the couple. They had never anticipated that not just one but all of the five kids would have issues with their heart. Luckily for them, this condition is one that isn’t incurable as there were medications to suppress it.
DANIELLE’S MOTHER LOST HER HOME
The Hurricane Harvey that quaked Texas in 2017 was one that didn’t leave without damages in its wake. Danielle’s family was one of those families heavily impacted by the Hurricane. To be precise, Danielle’s mother, Mimi, was the one who lost her home to the raging Hurricane. But, she was withdrawn safely before the disaster. The family jointly broadcast a message on Facebook saying:
“We have thrown out Mimi’s entire house today, it’s devastating. Though stuff is just stuff and can always be replaced, it’s not easy tossing your belongings.” They further expanded, “One thing is for sure; we all stick together and will make it through.”
HERE’S HOW MUCH MONEY THEY EARN FROM THE SHOW
The reality show “Outdaughtered” commenced airing in May 2016 and would soon be on the airwaves for the fifth season. A lot has been said about the amount of money the family rake in from the show. Fans were made to know the amount that the family earns from the show to quell untrue rumors.
The show’s producer Terrence Michael disclosed that the show takes about $250,000 to $400,000 to manage the logistics of just one episode. The family earns about ten percent of the figures. So about $40,000 is what the family makes per episode.
THEY RAISED MONEY FOR THEIR CHILDREN’S CARE
The moment Adam and Danielle realized that they were expecting five instead of one child, they had to come up with a better plan. All their programs geared towards having just a child had to be scrapped. Since the expenditures were now five times more than what they had bargained for, they had to do something fast about this realization.
Asides the expenses for the five, there was going to be the cost of booking meetings with a medical expert. To offset the impending costs they were likely to confront, Adam took a proactive measure to open up a GoFundMe account to raise money. Alas, it was a success as they were able to realize $23,000.
THEY DON’T GET MUCH SLEEP
Having just one hyper kid is enough to give sleepless nights. Not to mention having five kids who are in the same age bracket, one hell of a job. So when Adam and Danielle said they do not get to sleep as they try to adapt to being parents, it shouldn’t come as a surprise.
Danielle, in particular, was the one to bear the majority of the brunt, especially when she had to feed the kids. It was something that got strenuous for her, and she had to adjust to it mentally. On an interview with People, Danielle said there were times she slept while feeding the kids in the middle of the night.
8. ADAM HAS A FULL-TIME JOB
You would think that being the father of the most-watched family reality tv show, getting a job might be less important. Well, Adam disagrees, as he fetched a job for himself to cater to the needs of his family. Even though evolving into reality tv stars was something that transformed their lives ultimately, Adam was aware he needed a job.
Adam works as a key account manager in one of the service provider around. He is known for his work ethic. Combining his job and being a father of six is not something anybody would pray for every day. But Adam was able to balance the two well, a feat that is quite rare to accomplish.
THEY WERE ADVISED TO HAVE A SELECTIVE ABORTION
If you aren’t buoyant financially, you might want to consider listening to people who say selective abortion should be an option. That might be the case when scan reveals your family would have quintuplets. Adam and Danielle disclosed in the GofundMe page that they had been urged to try selective abortion to save costs and allow them to nurture the ones who made it well. The pair decided against having an abortion.
The parent of the quintuplets explained that before sticking with their plan, they confirmed that all the babies were doing fine. And they knew there was no need to discard any. The scans carried out revealed that their hearts and every other vitals were doing fine. So there was no option than to keep the babies.
THEY WERE BORN IN 4 MINUTES
The Busby kids didn’t take up to five minutes before they all came out. They all were delivered in four minutes on April 8, 2015. That delivery was contrary to opinions that having a set of babies at once might take hours to get them delivered even through Caesarian section. The delivery of the babies was at the Women’s Hospital of Texas, Houston.
It sounds incredible to know that Ava Lane, Riley Page, Hazel Grace, Olivia Marie, and Parker Kate were all delivered within four minutes. I bet there would be no bragging among them on who is the eldest as they all came out almost simultaneously.
5. THEIR ELDEST SISTER LOVES BEING A BIG SISTER
Five years after their marriage, the couple had a daughter, born on the fourth month of 2011 whose name is Blayke. Even if she knew her parents were going to have her younger siblings, she wouldn’t have imagined that they were going to be five at a go. Even if she had a crystal ball, she wouldn’t have seen that coming.
Like her parents, Blayke had to adjust to the addition of five siblings at a time to her family. Something about her is that she adores being the big sister. Little wonder she took to accommodate taking care of her little sisters. She was nicknamed princess because of her tendencies to be feminine.
THEIR LIFE IS A GROUNDHOG DAY
The only way Danielle would cope with her little ones was to do things regularly as there won’t be time for her to try new styles. So all she does are routine. Danielle bathes them, dresses them up, and feeds them, as they play and nap. While they take a nap, she was always doing something.
She compared the family’s lifestyle to the famous movie, Groundhog Day, in which the lead actor was always doing the routine. As she was doing laundry, she was also doing the dishes, cleaning up the kids’ mess, she was also putting them to bed. All these were what she was regularly doing. When the next day comes, the activities are on repeat.
3. ADAM IS SKILLED AT DOING THE GIRLS’ HAIR
You can’t fault Adam for knowing how to make hair. Surrounded by about seven girls around him, he had no option than to learn how to do the unusual. Since he also wanted to share in the parenting job, Adam was willing to help his wife bear some burden. Adam learned how to organize and fix the girls’ hair. In one of the interviews he granted to Parade in 2017, he said:
“Usually the mom takes on most responsibilities having to do stuff like fixing hair, picking out outfits and matching hair bows with outfits for the girls. When you have six of them, you find yourself right in the middle of that. I’m better with a round brush than Danielle!”
THEY DON’T HAVE PLANS FOR MORE CHILDREN
After an unprecedented six kids, Adam and Danielle agreed they were putting a stop to having more babies. The opined that burden of ensuring that all the kids were doing equally beautiful was enough. Also, they had to ensure that none of them have a feeling of preferential treatment over another. Shortly after having the quintuplets, Danielle was asked if they still wanted more kids.
She replied without batting an eyelid that they were done and that “shop was closed.” On one of the shows, Danielle suggested to Adam if they could have a vasectomy. This idea explicitly implies that in Danielle’s mind, there was no room for more kids.
THEY ARE USED TO BEING FILMED
A reality show for kids isn’t a regular experience. The fact that cameras have to be on the faces of these kids every day always was something the couple thought might affect the kids. But that was not the case with these kids. They enjoy every bit of their time with the camera although they do not get to be filmed all through the day. Danielle said that the girls were already used to having the cameras in their faces. And even if cameras aren’t there, the kids were always exposed to a lot of people who might be family, friends, and fans. In her words to USA today:
“There are constantly people around, regardless of if it’s film crew or family or friends. So we know that our house is just always full of people. It’s just the norm now!”
Having six toddler girls at home is not easy, and raising them even less, both Adam and Danielle have commented that their faith and their commitment to religion has been essential to successfully go through the stages so far, this is a fundamental part of their lives. Until now they are doing pretty well.
