How Parton and Cyrus Have Supported Each Other over the Years

Parton was asked to guest star in "Hannah Montana" after Cyrus recommended her. The country singer felt nice being there as Cyrus' fairy godmother. She enjoyed sharing the platform with her goddaughter and spending time with her and noted that they worked really well:

"For me, watching her being such a pro, she didn't know it, but I was watching her like a proud mama, thinking, you go, you little thing, I am so proud of you, and I have always been so proud of Miley, she's so talented."

Parton also supported Cyrus when she did sensational and spectacular things to break away from her "Hannah Montana" image. Cyrus wanted to be herself, but the world wouldn't let her as they were so used to the young girl on the Disney show.

However, Parton said a determined Cyrus resorted to extreme measures, which many people didn't like, but that she pulled it off and became a pop star. The country singer hit back at people who were complaining about all the things Cyrus has done in her career, including rebranding herself.

Parton said Cyrus was just like her because she was doing all these things to find her own space. She added that she doesn't always have to agree with the "Flowers" singer but that she'll always love her. When Cyrus did her version of "Jolene" in her concerts, Parton supported her and said she saw her singing it really well on TV.

Cyrus has learned from Parton not just by what she told her but by what she has done. The singer said her godmother had taught her not to be afraid through the way Parton doesn't hesitate to laugh at herself and push the boundaries for country music. She added that there was no one who had been able to make country music more sexual than her godmother.

The "We Can't Stop" singer has also shared hilarious moments between her and Parton. One time, Cyrus told Parton she wanted to change the color of her hair. Cyrus noted that Parton looked so scared when she told her this that it felt like she had given her the worst news ever.

Cyrus never got to dye her hair. Parton told her she couldn't do it because then she wouldn't look like her. Cyrus recalled Parton telling her, "You can't do that. You are me," and the younger singer concluded, "So I'm somehow some extension of Dolly Parton," and she kept her blond hair.

Netflix released the anthology series "Dolly Parton's Heartstrings" in 2019. Unfortunately, Cyrus couldn't play Jolene because she was doing other things at the time. Still, their bond has stood the test of time, even after a terrifying experience Cyrus encountered that could have cost her her life.
